Oh look, Nadine Vail has jury duty again. Poor woman’s been working two jobs since she kicked her husband out and got that restraining order. She always gives money to all kinds of food banks. She’s well rid of him with all his porn magazines. He put most of Nadine Vail’s mail into her box but held back one envelope that looked interesting and placed it into his special “after hours” mail bag. At home that night, he’d have a look at the contents like he did every night. Once he got the letter open, and consumed what was inside, he’d deliver it to Ms. Vail the following day like he did with all of his customers. He liked to know how they were all doing and no one had ever suspected. He kept tabs on everyone on his route who was interesting and he only found out which were the interesting ones after he reviewed some of their correspondence. Moving to the other end of the slots, he pulled out another packet and examined it.

What a surprise, another lawyer writing to John Keane. Must be that real estate scam he was running. No wonder his wife moved out. I have twice as much room in my cart since she left with all her clothes and makeup catalogs. How much of his money did she spend on all her garbage? Note to self: check his bank statement the next time it comes.

Reaching for several colored envelopes addressed to Anna Pabst, he held them up to the light. Looks like some cards. If I’m not mistaken, I believe today is Ms. Pabst’s birthday. Happy birthday, Anna. If you were younger I might let you be my girlfriend for a night, but since you’re over forty, congratulations, you’ll get to enjoy another year. Whistling ‘Happy Birthday’, he completed his mail delivery for that building and locked up all the boxes.

Pushing his cart to the next building, he daydreamed about his upcoming date. He had selected the lucky girl only recently but was satisfied she was the perfect one for June. From the first time he read her mail he had been enchanted but when he finally saw her, it was love at first sight. He smiled ruefully. I always think the next one is going to be “the one” and I’m always so disappointed. But this time, I really think she could be my soulmate.

He shook his head to bump any negative thoughts out as he entered another building and unlocked the metal mailbox case. I have a very good feeling about my June date. I might even ask her to marry me if she behaves. Of course, it will have to be a very short engagement.

After losing the masked woman in the park, Sean walked a still shaken Zoe back to her building.
