I was serious when I pulled away and said we shouldn’t do this. It was a moment that should’ve been shared with someone she loved. That’s the way things should be for everyone, man or woman. But then she said she wanted it to be me. Me. I might be a bastard, because when she said those words, I knew there was no way I wasn’t going to give her everything she wanted. Not when I wanted her more than I’d ever wanted anyone, and certainly not when she said my name with so much trust.
She has me wrapped around her finger, and I don’t even think she realizes it.
Why else would I have agreed to enter a casual relationship when being her friend is the last thing I want? After Amber, I’d sworn to myself I’d only get attached to someone who wanted the real deal with me, but that was before I met Wren. She’s a tough one to crack, and I realized something when she offered something casual: it might be the key to her heart. If we started sleeping together, then maybe I could get her to start caring for me, and then she’d realize the two of us together makes sense. She might see that her genetic heritage doesn’t change anything for me. So, I agreed to it, even though I want more. So much more.
But I’m not about to tell all that to Finn. Instead, I say, “Whatever.”
A burst of laughter resonates behind me as I continue walking. “Really? You’re actually not going to say anything?”
“Yup.”
“You’re no fun,” my best friend says.
“Tough luck,” I say, blowing him a kiss over my shoulder.
His eyes narrow before a smirk slowly curls his lips.
Ah, shit.
“If I can’t get any information from you, then I’ll need to go ask someone else. So you better tell me everything before I go ask someone what’s up with the two of you.”
I stop walking.
With a rub of his chin, he says, “I could call Will. Surely he knows something.”
My jaw clenches. I knew I should never have introduced those two.
His eyes widen in amusement. “Or I could walk a few steps and go ask your mom.”
“You wouldn’t.”
“Wanna bet?”
I really need to find new friends.
“Fine,” I admit. “We may have slept together once.”
He gasps like a schoolgirl before getting up and slapping his hands together. “Ha! I knew it!” With a quick stride, he joins me before punching my shoulder.
“Ow!”
“And you weren’t going to tell me? I’m hurt.”
I roll my eyes.
“So?” He waggles his eyebrows. “How was it?”
