“It was good.” I turn and get back to my trap installing so he doesn’t try to wring any more out of me. Good doesn’t even cover how it was. I don’t think a word could do justice to what it felt like to be with her in that way, even if I had to leave afterward when all I wanted to do was stay in bed with her.
And there’s no way I’m telling Finn about it being Wren’s first time. That’s something that’s purely between her and I. For some reason, I got lucky enough for her to decide to share this moment with me, so there’s no way I’m ruining it by telling Finn.
“Just good? That’s it?”
I throw a snowball at him. “Stop fishing for details. You’re not getting any.”
“Wow. She got you all secretive and shit. This is serious.” He grins.
“Far from it,” I mutter as I finish setting up my trap and move to another.
“What does that mean?”
“Since when are you so nosy?”
“Humor me.”
I feel like rolling my eyes again, but I don’t. This, I could actually use someone to talk about with.
Grunting as I pull the trap in the right position, I say, “She suggested that we enter a friends-with-benefits kind of arrangement.” At least that’s what I think she meant.
“Whoa. Wasn’t expecting that.”
Me neither, Finn. Me neither.
“But didn’t you say you were against a casual fuck after Amber?”
“I didn’t have much choice in the matter.” If I did, I’d never have suggested something like that. “It’s what she offered, so I took it.”
“And you’re gonna be able to keep things casual?” Finn isn’t working one bit, now only watching me, arms crossed.
I clear my throat. “She said that her only condition for us to do this thing was that we keep feelings out of it.”
“Oh, man, you’re so fucked.”
I lift an eyebrow at him.
“You’re not as subtle as you like to think you are,” he gives as an answer to my unspoken question. That’s the second time someone’s told me something like that, and I don’t like it.
Not answering, I return my attention to my job.
A few moments pass where Finn finishes installing another trap. Then he comes back to me and says, “Seriously, though. You think you’ll be okay?”
My jaw twitches. “I hope I’ll be.” This is as honest as I can get.
