Another beat. “You scared her.”
“You scared all of us, son,” Reggie says.
I blink.
“Now, why don’t you two have a seat and I’ll get some coffee started. Although you could probably use a gallon of water instead—”
“I’ll have whiskey, thanks,” I say.
Reggie makes a noise in his throat, but otherwise ignores that statement as he heads toward the fridge. I take a seat at the table and I finally look up at Will.
He hovers where I left him, the brown bag clutched in his hand. He’s got on a solid white t-shirt that’s wrinkled from sleep, and black sweats. I wonder when he managed to get those. Hell, maybe he packed a bag for this little slumber party from Hell.
I arch a brow and gesture at the seat across from me. “You’ve violated my privacy this far. Don’t stop now. I’m sure I’m in for one doozy of a lecture—”
“Waylon, enough!” my uncle barks, slamming a glass down.
I flinch, barely masking my grimace. Will’s eyes crease with concern as Reggie mutters something under his breath from behind me.
A glass of water then appears before me. He doesn’t immediately let go.
He releases a breath. “Waylon—”
I calmly take the glass and I chuck it across the room. Smashing it off the wall, right next to the stupid old cuckoo clock that hasn’t worked a day in my life.
Reggie’s hand hangs frozen next to my face, and Will seems to be biting down on his tongue.
“Fuck you.”
I hear my uncle’s hard swallow.
I glare up at Will, feeling tears sear my eyes once more. “Fuck both of you.”
Ignoring the mess I made, Reggie pulls out the chair next to me, turning it so he’s facing me head-on.
“Is this some kind of joke to you?” I ask, turning my glare on him. “Bringing me here when you know—” My voice catches.
He slides his eyes shut.
“You’re no better than him.”
He rears back as if I struck him.
“Way.”
I whirl toward Will. “Are you fucking serious?”
If I thought I felt betrayal before, it’s nothing compared to now.
I’m shaking my head and Will’s eyes go round as he takes a staggering step forward.
“Way, that’s not—”
“I don’t want to fucking hear it!” I shout, my voice echoing off the walls.
He freezes mid-step, face scrunching up with hurt.
Reggie sighs. “Waylon, look at me.”
I grit my teeth, not taking my eyes off Will. Hurt floods my veins, so frigid it burns, that I swear I’m seconds from erupting into flames.
“Please, Waylon.”
I finally drag my gaze to my uncle. “What?”
Reggie searches my eyes. “I’m the one you should be mad at. Not him. I’m the one who failed you—”
“No shit.”
