I had to readjust the phone to my opposite ear, while I continued to pack my things.
“Yeah, I’m beginning to wonder if you’re all right. Is everything healthy? Have you been to the doctors lately? The clinic? You tell me.”
“I don’t believe you,” she responded. “You’re sitting there accusing me of being imbalanced in some way, just because I’m questioning the crazy things that so-called normal people do in America. And now I’m the one who has a problem?”
There was no sense in me backing down at that point.
I said, “Yeah, normal people have sex and drama in their life. That’s always been normal. And you use to like sex.”
“So, I’m being abnormal by not wanting that shit in my life? Is that what you’re telling me?”
I said, “You know it already. You know you’re confused. You’re still trying to figure out the answers.”
“Okay, yeah, let me get off this phone before we end up no longer being friends,” she told me.
“You’re gonna cut me off for telling you the truth?”
“You think you’re telling me the truth? No, you’re telling me an opinion. Because there is nothing wrong with me.”
I had no more to say about it. Judi seemed to be getting more defensive by the minute, and I still was not convinced that she even knew what she was feeling herself. Was her ego that blind that she refused to admit her ailments? Women could be three times as stubborn as guys when it came to their feelings. A guy can admit when he’s wrong, he just wants to do the shit anyway. But women, they wouldn’t even admit that they were wrong. I guess they were spoiled into thinking they were right all the time. I don’t know.
“Well?” she asked me.
I was confused. “Well, what?”
“Are you gonna apologize for that?”
“Apologize for what?” I asked her. Can you believe that? She was asking me to apologize, as if I had no right to express anything that was in opposition to what she thought.
“Judi, you’re being ridiculous. Why do I have to apologize? Even if it is an opinion, I wasn’t saying it to hurt you. I was just expressing my thoughts like you express your thoughts.”
“Okay, well, I’ll talk to you once you feel you owe me an apology then. Because it sounded to me like you were accusing me of having a disease or being crazy. I got your ‘have you been to the clinic’ shit! So what exactly are you trying to say, that I stopped having sex because somebody gave me something?”
I had went ahead and put my foot in my mouth, and Judi was making me choke on it. So what could I say to that, that Danni made me do it? I would sound like an asshole. I already looked like one. Different women had different ways of living their lives. But I already knew that.
“Well, what do you have to say for yourself ?” Judi pressed me. “Are you gonna try and tell me now that that’s not what you meant?”
