- About the Author
“Well, I can see if you have AIDS or a disease or something.” Then she looked at me skeptically across the table. “You don’t have a disease, do you?”
“No,” I told her. “I just know someone who’s pushing the celibacy idea pretty strongly.”
“Well, maybe they have a disease.”
That was it. It was a done deal for her. Danni went right back to eating her food and sipping her drink.
I didn’t think that deeply about Judi having a disease. I looked at her celibacy issue more as a decision of proactive choice, not reactive guilt. Then again, it did seem that she was responding to something.
I figured I would casually bring it up once Judi and I had another chance to talk. I didn’t want to call her up to instigate it just off of what Danni was saying. I figured a natural conversation with Judi would happen in time.
In the meantime, I was getting set for my lung cancer awareness shoot in Chicago. We would all be wearing basic white T-shirts, tank tops, and sports jackets to show purity and innocence. I had stopped my witch hunt for Andrea. What was the point in it? However, the day before my flight to Chicago, Corey called me.
“Hey, Terrance, are you still coming into town this week?”
“Yeah. I fly in tomorrow.”
I wasn’t going to ask him anything about Andrea. But he decided to fill me in with the latest reports on her on his own.
“You wouldn’t believe what I found out about your old girl this week, man. I mean, I can’t say that it’s official yet, but this is what I’m hearing.”
I was ready to cut him off and tell him that I didn’t want to know about her anymore. But before I could make up my mind to speak out, he said, “I hear she’s into girlfriends now.”
That was it for me. I said, “Look, man, I’ve been thinking about this thing, and I came to the conclusion that I really don’t want to know about her anymore. It’s all water under the bridge now.”
“Are you sure, man, because I got a number for her now and everything. I mean, it’s a friend of a friend, but I figured you’d be able to track her down with it if you really wanted to.”
A friend of a friend? I thought to myself. This guy was hilarious. I didn’t know how seriously I could take him anymore.
“Nah, man, I’m sure. I just gotta keep that girl out my mind. It’s the only way to keep my sanity about it,” I told him.
“What, she’s been fucking up your mind lately?”
Sounded like I had given him too much information. He didn’t know all the things that had gone on between Andrea and me. Or did he?
“Yeah, I’m just gonna leave it alone, man,” I answered. “That’s all I have left to say about it.”
“Okay. So we’ll just hang out when you get to town then? I’m not too busy this week.”
