“So, there’s no other white guy or anyone who can get even close to you, huh?”

I could have had Victoria laughing all night. I guess a lot of the things I said to her tickled her funny bone.

“Actually, to tell you the truth, I get a kick out of turning guys down for my man. I mean, it just makes it, you know, that much more special for him.”

“Yeah, so you can be a total freak for your man, right? I understand. You unleash it all on one guy.”

She laughed again, confirming it. “That’s the way it should be, right?”

I said, “So, if you chose me, you’ll do anything I tell you to do? Is that it?”

“Well, yeah,” she answered with a pause. “And I already have chosen you.”

“So, what’s up with the hesitation? It sounded like you were unsure.”

“Well, I mean, you always want to do everything for your man, but once you’ve been burned, you get a little bit scared each time.”

“That’s life, Victoria. I mean, there’s reason for me to be afraid every time I get on an airplane. That damn thing may not land in one piece.”

“Don’t say that,” she told me. “I’d rather hate you than to have something like that happen. I would rather be on that plane with you then.”

I heard what she said, and thought, DAMN! This white girl can’t be real.

I asked her, “You really mean that? That’s like saying you would die for me?” And you still hardly know me, I told myself.

She said, “That’s just the way I am. That’s why I get so afraid whenever I’m involved with someone.”

“Well, what happened to living life for just you?” I questioned.

“I still do that. I haven’t stopped pursuing my dreams.”

I said, “But what if I told you not to go for it, and to help me book more of my modeling gigs? What would you say to that?”

“Well, first of all; I would be honored to help you book more modeling jobs, and I would be getting the needed experience in the business that way. An inside position is always better than an outside position. But why would you tell me not to go for my own dreams? I think I would be able to do both.”

I was only testing her temperament, and so far, she was passing my tests with flying colors.

I said, “It was just another hypothetical, but this is not; I’ll be transferring planes from Atlanta to Chicago and from Chicago to Los Angeles on Friday morning. But if I fly earlier, and stay over in Chicago the night before, then I’ll have time to see you. That is, if you’ll have me,” I added.

She got excited again. “Yeah, of course I would. So you would fly in on Thursday night?”

“And I’ll book a hotel room for us at the airport, that way I don’t have to get caught inside the city in the morning,” I told her.
