“Good, because my period just came on this morning. But you know what, I really just feel like being by myself tonight. Don’t be mad.”

Interesting, I thought to myself. Was I already beginning to bore her? I doubted it, but you never know. Nevertheless, she was giving me a free missing-in-action pass for the weekend. So not only would I give her Thursday night to herself, but Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, too, while I finally got around to pleasing Rachel.

“Oh, I’m not mad. I’m cool with it,” I told her. “I mean, I understand. You got a whole lot of emotions that get involved with that.”

“Now that don’t mean you’re free to go buck wild on me tonight with some other woman. I know how guys get down when you can’t have what you want,” she stated.

I chuckled. “Actually, it seems like you like sex more than I do. So maybe this is a little harder for you than it is for me.”

“Wait a minute, are you trying to call me a nympho? Because you don’t want me to shut shit down. I can do that you know.”

That was the fear many men had about keeping only one woman; she could control your sex life. So a loyal man became dependent upon keeping her happy in life, satisfied with his performance, or just plain obedient to his needs and desires. Sometimes it took a combination of all three of those things, or so I’ve heard from my married friends and the relationship experts.

“I’m not calling you that,” I backed off and told Danni. I wanted no part of the love games. I wanted to keep everything simple.

“So, what are you saying then?” she asked me.

It was as if she was trying to instigate a fight. I didn’t mean anything by it. It was only a joke.

I paused and said, “You know what, I’m not trying to go where you’re trying to take me. So I’ll just call you back next week or something when you’re feeling a little better.”

“Next week?”

“Doesn’t it take that long?”

“That doesn’t mean you can’t call me.”

“All right, I’ll call you sooner then,” I told her. I was ready to get the hell off the phone at that point. Our conversation was going nowhere good.

She said, “You can call me tomorrow. I just don’t feel like having company tonight. I mean, I’m not sick or anything, I’m just a little cranky and tired of having these cramps and shit, that’s all.”

It’s funny how when you get closer to a woman she starts bringing up things you rarely had to deal with before. When Danni was still insecure and trying hard to please me, it was like she never had a period. But now that she was confident in her relationship with me, all this other bullshit came out. Am I supposed to be attracted to that?

I said, “All right, will do,” just to get off of the phone with her.
