Meredith caressed the sides of her neck and cradled her jaw. She bent just enough to place an upside down kiss on her parted lips. “You’ve been so busy and distracted, I figured this would be more your speed.”

She wove her fingers into Meredith’s hair, tangling the thick strands tightly around her fingers before going in for another kiss. She deepened it, even at the awkward angle. Jax was hungry for the connection, the warmth, the arousal. Jax was starved for normalcy. She inhaled deeply and basked in the scent of Meredith. She smelled of wildflowers and saltwater.

“Do you want to eat?” Meredith spoke against her wet lips.

Jax smirked. She grabbed Meredith’s hand and led her around to stand between her parted legs. She took her time scanning Meredith’s body. She sat forward and kissed just above Meredith’s navel, and then between her breasts. She felt Meredith’s toned calves up to the backs of her thighs, and palmed her ass roughly.

Meredith was watching her intently when their eyes finally met. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

“I think we should eat.” She toyed with the rough edges of Meredith’s enticing clothes. “I wouldn’t mind looking at you in this for a little longer.”

“I’m happy to hear that,” Meredith said, running her fingertip along Jax’s jawline, then dipping her index finger between Jax’s lips.

She ran her tongue along Meredith’s finger, then sucked eagerly the moment Meredith responded. She released the finger with a pop and enjoyed Meredith’s dazed expression. “You look like you need to sit down.”

“Not yet.” She gripped Jax’s shoulders firmly before pushing back. “I have something for you.” Meredith walked across the room.

She gawked at Meredith’s body and her perfectly formed ass. “You’re gorgeous.”

Meredith turned, flipping her long hair over her shoulder. “Try saying that to my face next time.”

“You know I will.”

Jax watched, enamored, as Meredith turned on a small speaker and looked through her phone. Her heart was beating hard with anticipation for what was to come. The opening bass line of the song caused her throat to tighten and stomach to drop. Toni Braxton’s “You’re Makin’ Me High” brought back a hundred memories, all good and all involving Gretchen.

“This song…”

Meredith smirked. “I snooped through your music. This is one of your most played.”

She kept her eyes on Meredith’s hips as they swayed in time. Her mind, however, went places they shouldn’t have. Like Gretchen driving her beat-up Chevy, windows down in the heart of summer with the same song blasting on the radio. She could still recall watching the mirrors shake with the vibrations.

Meredith pressed her ass into Jax’s lap and moved in tight circles. Jax closed her eyes.
