“You’re getting out of bed, Ally,” Jasmine says, switching the TV back off. “Don’t make me pull you out of that bed and into the shower.” I raise my eyebrows. “I’ll do it. Think about how much shit you got for going to the strip club with me. What will everyone think if they see me putting you in the shower? Right after a breakup with your boyfriend? I mean, the lesbian rumors on the message boards alone would . . .”

Simone giggles. I glare at her.

“Fine. But I’m pissed at both of you.” I grab my shower stuff and head to the bathroom.

An hour later, we’re sitting in Pizzeria Uno with Sam the cameraman. Actually, he’s sitting at the table across from us, but technically he’s still there, so whatever. I’m showered, wearing clean clothes, and even have lip gloss on. Somehow, once I got clean and out of the house, my appetite came back, and I’ve eaten almost half of an Uno’s pepperoni pizza all by myself.

“So then she grabs the tip right off the table in front of me. Off of my table!” Jasmine’s saying. She takes a sip of her soda and swirls the straw around her glass. “So I was like, listen, I know you aren’t pulling down the kind of shit I am, but that doesn’t give you a right to steal.” She looks at us over the top of her glass. “Seriously, sometimes I can’t believe people.”

“Wow,” Simone says softly. “What a bitch.” Jasmine and I look at her in shock.

“Did you just say ‘bitch’?”

“I guess,” she says, shrugging. “Why?”

“Nothing,” I say. “It’s just a very un-Simone-like thing to say, that’s all.”

“She’s been doing a lot of un-Simone-like things lately,” Jasmine reports.

“True.”

“Did James ever ask you about the shirt?” Jasmine asks. She’s wearing this see-through light blue top, and every time the waiter walks by, he looks like he’s going to faint from wanting.

“No,” Simone says. “He thinks some guy in his economics class did it. I guess James stole his girlfriend or something.”

“Classy,” I say, draining the last of my soda and looking around for the waiter so I can get another one.

“I can’t believe I did that,” Simone says, biting her lip. “I’m not going to do anything like that anymore. It’s not worth it.”

“Good for you,” I say. I wish I could be so adjusted. Of course, I never got the chance to destroy anyone’s property.

“Speaking of not being worth it, how’s that bitch Kelly?” Jasmine asks me.

“Don’t know.” All the pizza I just ate shifts in my stomach. “I don’t talk to her, she doesn’t talk to me. And she didn’t steal anyone away from me.”

“Tried.”

“She wasn’t trying to do anything. Drew wasn’t mine. I have—I mean, I had a boyfriend. She can do whatever she wants with whoever she wants.”
