- Don't miss out!
With one final look at the couple, she had turned around and made her way back to the castle where she packed her bags. She had waited patiently for Ethan to throw her out of his manor but it never happened. For some strange reason, Ethan allowed her stay until today.
Knowing full well that Ethan might probably never utter another word to her, Juliet turned to glance out of the window, bored. Ethan had been giving her the silent treatment for five days and she couldn't blame him for she deserved it.
Her vision settled on a carriage as it went by and for a brief second, she thought it appeared familiar. She wasn't certain why she thought it appeared familiar, but there was something about it that triggered a lost memory.
The carriage began to slow down after a few more minutes. Glancing out of the window, she saw the courthouse just as the door was pulled open and she was helped down by the coachman. She glanced briefly at the streets, before turning her gaze to the courthouse building. This was it —it was the day she'd hand over her child willingly to Ethan and Gretchen, the day she'd most likely leave London and try to fix what was left of her life. Perhaps a day would come when she'd come back, perhaps there would come a day when she'd have an actual relationship with Elizabeth? Today however, she knew she was doing the right thing.
She stole one final glance at Ethan who stood clenching his jaw beside her, and a smile settled on her face —Ethan was finally going to be happy and he might not know it yet but Juliet didn't plan on contending for the child. On the contrary, she planned on waiving all parental rights to Elizabeth and giving Ethan and Gretchen full custody; it was the least she could do.
She made to take the first step up the stairs leading to the courthouse when her mind suddenly drifted to Lady Hall —would Ethan and Gretchen still have to contend with Henrietta? Juliet had failed to deliver Elizabeth to Henrietta two nights ago but Henrietta didn't seem like the type—
“Ethan!” She gasped, turning to him. Turning around stiffly, his angry gaze settled on her. “You have to go back!” She hurried up the stairs of the courthouse building, taking hold of his arm.
It was then as she spoke, that she saw a man she recognized to be Ethan's lawyer, making his way down the stairs of the courthouse. He was dressed in a gray business suit and his brown hair was parted to the sides.
“Lord Williams, the hearing is about to begin.” The lawyer announced as he reached them.
Juliet shook her head violently. “Ethan,”
“That is enough, Juliet!” Ethan half growled, yanking his hand from her grip and turning to walk up the remaining flight of stairs.
Gathering the skirt of her yellow dress in her hands, she raced up the stairs after him.
