“Where are we?” She asked, as the door to the carriage was pulled open.

Elaine simply smiled at her, before climbing down. They made their way into the building and were immediately ushered into a private parlor furnished with furniture from around the world.

“Where are we?!” Juliet planted her fists on her hips as her eyes traveled the luxurious room. Purple curtains hung from the two large windows, blocking the sunlight from streaming in. Elaine settled comfortably on a brown sofa which was one of the three sofas in the room. The floors were covered with a white and brown patterned rug.

It was obvious from the look of annoyance and anxiety in Juliet's eyes that she wasn't about to sit down just yet, as her gaze continued to travel the room.

“My house.”

The voice that sounded from the entrance was enough to gain both women's attention. Elaine hurriedly rose to her feet at the sight of the slender blonde head who made her way into the room with steps commanding attention.

Juliet's gaze ran over the blonde woman and Elaine followed her gaze —from the woman's curly blonde locks that fell to her shoulders, to her mesmerizing, large hazel eyes, to her baby blue dress— before turning questioning eyes back to Elaine.

“What's going on here?” Juliet asked.

“Well, it's about time we tell her, don't you think?” The woman said with what sounded like humor as Juliet turned back to her. “Miss Winston, I'm the woman who brought you back here, and if you do not already know who I am,” She flashed a smile. “I'm Lady Henrietta Hall, welcome to my manor. Now, sit! ”

Chapter Thirty Eight

Lady Henrietta Hall gingerly placed herself on the sofa before turning her gaze to the brunette woman who still maintained her standing position.

“Do you intend to stand there all day?” Henrietta asked in amusement.

“If that's what it takes,” Juliet huffed, crossing her arms across her chest.

Henrietta observed Juliet, her gaze running from her dark mass of brown hair, to her oval shaped face, to her white high neck collared shirt and down to her full black, ankle length skirt, before moving back up to her face. Juliet had long, straight lashes that made it difficult to see the color of her eyes. Two lines creased the edges of her brows, pulling them together to form a frown as she stood with her arms crossed, practically glaring at Henrietta.

“Juliet, sit down!” Elaine called from her position on the sofa.

Henrietta lifted a hand, halting Elaine. She watched Juliet, finding humor in her childlike attitude. “Leave her be, Elaine. Perhaps it's best if she does stand. It does not surprise me, though. A peasant such as Juliet here must be used to standing.” Henrietta leaned back comfortably on the sofa and waited for the implications of her sentence to sink into Juliet. The angry lines on Juliet's brows deepened.
