Chapter Thirty Nine

Four Months Before
Fully satisfied that her mission to the Williams' manor was fulfilled, Henrietta Hall made her way out of the front door and down the stairs with a broad smile on her face —surely, the silly nanny would rethink her decision to be wed to Ethan, surely she'd have some sense and choose to abandon the wedding, thereby giving Henrietta the chance to step in to Ethan's life.
Of course Henrietta would have to find a way to rid herself of the love child between Ethan and Juliet. Henrietta couldn't bear the thought of allowing Ethan have the smallest reminder of Juliet especially because once Henrietta and Ethan got married, they'd have children of their own.
Pride surged through her —she was so close to being with the man of her fantasies.
“Lady Hall?!”
She paused in her tracks as she reached the carriage. Turning around, she was just in time to see one of Ethan's maids running toward her.
A frown settled on Henrietta's brow as the maid reached where she stood.
“Pardon me, Lady Hall,” The brunette maid managed a smile.
“How may I help you?” Henrietta asked, impatient with the intruding female.
“I overheard your conversation with Miss Riverside,” The maid said, a light pink color spreading across her cheeks as she spoke. “I apologize my lady, for eavesdropping but I believe I can help you.”
She raised a brow, certain the servant before her had nothing she needed. “With what?”
“I believe your intentions for telling Miss Riverside about Lady Juliet was to get rid of her.” The maid said, shuffling her feet nervously. “I can help you with that.”
A mirthless laugh escaped Henrietta's lips. “Why should I trust you?”
“Because, my lady, I find Miss Riverside's presence here quite appalling —as I believe you do.” The maid sighed as Henrietta watched her with suspicion. “It started the morning Lord Williams assigned me to care for Elizabeth. Miss Riverside had practically snatched the baby from my arms, hurled insults at me, marched me out of the nursery and now, she intends to be my lady. Surely, you do not expect me to sit back and watch this be the case. Miss Riverside is a woman who shall have me fired the moment she weds my lord.”
“I see,” Henrietta quirked a brow in question.
“Yes,” She nodded swiftly before glancing behind her as if to see if anyone was watching. She turned back to Henrietta, brown eyes nervous. “Mrs. Winston was here. She is Juliet's guardian and from what I heard, she's trying to stop the wedding as well. If you find her, I'm sure you two can work together to stop the wedding.” She whispered hurriedly.
“And what do you intend to profit from all of this?”
