I took creative license with some descriptions of towns, buildings, general locations, tides, and travel times, etc. Ironically enough, I had to accept that oceanography and geography are not necessarily story and I adjusted the grid accordingly. But please know that I love the Mornington Peninsula (Victoria, Australia)—it’s my home, and I meant no disrespect by straddling the line between cartographer and storyteller, to make the map work for me.

Likewise, I had to accept that this is a story inspired by true events, and not a strict recounting of those times. Certain historical and political events may be imprecise; I again take on that responsibility as a fiction storyteller and encourage you as reader to go forth and read more about this time in Australian and world politics.

Mom and Dad—thank you for your patience. By now you’ve also probably realized that there’s a lot of our family and my childhood within these pages; thank you for that too. I love us, to the moon and back.
