- AUTHOR’S NOTES
“Trying to decide how to arrange the schoolroom and nursery.” She rolled up the plans and grabbed his hand. “Come with me.”
He let her drag him up to the nursery. “This is nice.” John walked around, looking at everything. “It’s much nicer than ours was.” He flashed her a grin. “But you know that. It’s why we’re here.”
“I am considering using the design Grace used for this house and Stanwood House.” She took his hand again. “Take a look at the schoolroom.”
Once again he walked around, looking into the various rooms. “There is even a bathing chamber and a music room.”
“She planned for everything. At the time the renovations were done, Charlotte was making her come out. It would have been mad for her to practice and to find time for Mary, Alice, and me to practice as well. Then, when she married Matt, we added Augusta, Madeline, and Louisa.”
He nodded distractedly. “It is amazing how light these rooms are.” Once he had finished his tour, he glanced at her. “If you wish to do the same thing at Montagu House, tell Rollins that’s what you want.”
“The only problem is that this is a great deal of room, and we have no idea how many children we’ll have.”
“That’s true.” He surveyed the area again. “But it is better to have the space and not use it. or make some small changes, than not have the room.” John drew Eleanor into his arms. “Aside from that, any children of ours will have cousins who will visit.”
“I suppose.” She pressed kisses on his jaw.
He lifted her chin and kissed her. “Speaking of children, where is everyone?”
“The babies are outside. I am not certain where the others are. But neither Mr. Winters nor Mrs. Winters are here. There must be an outing.”
John slid his hand down her back to the top of her buttock. “It’s a shame we are not at Montagu House.”
Embers were already starting to come to life as he continued his caresses. But she did not dare suggest they make love here. “I am sure there is something I must do over there.”
“Some wallpaper samples arrived. You really should take a look at them.” His teeth gently scraped her ear.
“I must. I’ll call for your carriage to be brought around.”
“No need. I came to fetch you so that you can make a decision about them and speak to the chef Jacques is sending over.”
That was like a splash of cold water. “Why was I not told before now?”
“I got word he was available to see us and came straightaway.”
“Let us be off.” She did not want their potential cook to leave before they arrived.
