- AUTHOR’S NOTES
“They married not long after we did. They’ll be visiting their families for a month or so,” Phinn added.
Charlie took a slice of rare beef from a platter. “Speaking of secretaries, I must find one. I must also take my seat in the Lords.”
“Well, then.” Matt nodded thoughtfully. “I am happy to help you with both things.”
Augusta glanced at Eleanor, Madeline, and Alice. “I suppose your first event is Lady Bellamny’s soirée for young ladies.”
“Almost,” Eleanor said. “Lady Exeter’s sister-in-law, Penelope, is coming out as well. We have been invited to tea with her and two of her friends.”
“I would like to accompany you.” Augusta’s eyes smiled over the rim of her teacup. “I would love to see Dorie Exeter again. We have written to each other over the years, and she knows I’ll be here soon.”
“Or now,” Madeline commented.
Eleanor and Alice covered their mouths but could not stifle their laughter. Eleanor glanced at Charlotte and Louisa, who were silently laughing as well.
“Yes, now,” Augusta agreed good-naturedly. “While we have you all here, Phinn and I have an announcement. We are expecting a baby in September.”
The noise level rose as everyone congratulated their sister and brother-in-law. Alice caught Eleanor’s eye and noticed Madeline was looking at her as well. They all knew that if they married this Season, it could soon be them having babies. But the first thing they had to do was find gentlemen they wished to wed.
CHAPTER THREE
CHAPTER THREE
John, the Marquis of Montagu, had noticed the three young ladies headed for the gate, and his gaze lingered on the one riding closest to him. She had a fine seat. Perhaps he should add that to his requirements for a wife. Since he’d arrived in Town, he had found himself distracted by the problems at home. Fortunately, it was still early, and the Season had not yet begun. He had to find a wife. His mother and sister would nag him until he did. And it was his duty. If only there was an easy way to go about it. Perhaps he’d meet some gentlemen who were looking for likely husbands for their daughters and John could arrange a match. Of course, the lady would have to agree. He didn’t want a wife who didn’t want him.
“We need to discover a way to meet them,” Giffard, the recently elevated Marquis of St. Albans, heir to the Duke of Cleveland, said.
