Every element . . . Lucas was surprised. He really didn’t know much about the game’s magic system, but after his lunch with Liu, one of the more evident things that he had noticed while looking up information was that each Mage only had “friendly” spells for their class. The Thaumaturge class could cast Fire, Lightning, and Ice spells very easily but wasn’t able to channel Water, Wind, Earth, pure Arcanum or other non-temperature-related elemental spells. The more specialized a school was, the higher a percentage of energy it could channel into a single elemental type. This was probably why Lucas’s energy channeling was only 10% compared to a Thaumaturge’s 15%, but he was still impressed since usually classes with only four of the elements barely reached the ability to dump 10% of their total energy per second into a spell.
Too bad I’m not going to use it. He had already decided a while ago that he’d be making sure to attune to a specific element: Lightning. It had less utility than other elemental magic schools, had far fewer area-of-effect damage options, and it was also the most difficult to master. The one major upside, however, was that it did the highest amount of burst damage.
“I see you’ve begun to accept our ways,” the trainer chimed in. “But until you fully comprehend what it means to be an Enchanter, you can’t call yourself my pupil. Nor can you wear our title like the badge you upstarts yearn for.”
“Yeah, he’s going to keep going on with this stuff,” Xun Guan commented wryly. “Just keep nodding to skip to the end and fast forward through this boring dialogue. After that, open up the Dungeon Menu and prepare yourself for battle.”
Lucas perked up. “The Dungeon Menu?”
“Yes, the Dungeon Menu. You don’t have an avatar yet, so you need to get one. It won’t be a big deal presently since you don’t have a quest, but it’s better to set one up now than later,” Xun Guan explained.
“What’s an avatar?” Lucas asked. He had no idea what she was talking about. Isn’t this character I’m playing as in the game already an avatar?
“Well . . .” Xun Guan laughed. “How do you think I managed to hang out with you for twelve hours a day while people still completed my dungeon? Or how do you think five people could do the same dungeon instance at the same time without running into each other? Avatars are copies that the AI generates to take the place of a dungeon lord. You give the system combat data, and it uses that to fight off enemies. The better you perform in each combat scenario, the higher level your dungeon becomes. Without an avatar, your dungeon is currently a very low Level 0.”
“So, I’ll never be able to fight players coming into my dungeon?”
