Lucas couldn’t ignore Viola’s angry gaze, which was permanently fixed on his back. It had been there since they first set off to find the monster. Lucas had told the workers that he was merely going to place the prisoners in a cell in the manor’s basement and hear out their case when they woke up. He had done this to make himself appear somewhat softer to the people so that they wouldn’t feel like a chain was tightening around their necks and plot against him during the hours of work he planned to get out of them. They were his precious laborers, soon to dedicate their existence to rebuilding his dungeon and repairing his lands for the low, low price of a few measly pieces of silver and gold.

The moment the workers had left the throne room, she had started in on him, complaining that he was failing once more as a villain because he had hidden the true fate of the four people who had tried to kill him in the bar. None of his reasoning swayed Viola at all. She had just grumbled that “a real villain needs to never show an ounce of mercy. He needs to be an unmoving stone whose mere presence exerts pressure on all those around him.” She insisted that he should tell the people, “Hey, I plan on feeding two of these to my spider on the bottom floor. She’s been complaining about being too fat, and this will give her just the amount of points she needs to practically double her speed as she sheds all of her excess weight with the Lighter and Tighter evolution. Also, I plan on waking up the bear so that he can enjoy being eaten alive just because I hate how he was organizing and sending his own comrades off to die in rebellions against good leaders for some other bastard’s purpose. Oh, and then I plan on taking the next two men, still unconscious, to barter with another monster.”

“Hmph.” Viola made an obvious and indignant noise yet again.

“She’s going to mope the whole way, isn’t she?” Nick asked.
