I grabbed Andie’s glass and took a swig, my mind firing rapidly, trying to take in everything I’d just heard. Sure, it made sense that they were looking at Cris after the ketamine discovery, but I knew nothing about Adam. Could he fit the killer’s profile too? The sliver of hope that someone may be able to replace Cris as the main suspect gave me a renewed sense of energy. Adam was the only other male relative I could look into. I grabbed my phone and started scrolling.

‘Ooh, what are we doing?’

‘I’m calling Adam again,’ I said, just as I found his number in my call history.

Andie sat back in her seat and when I stole a sideways glance at her, she looked hesitant.

‘What?’ I asked, my eyes already back on the screen.

‘Do you really think that’s a good idea, Lizzie? I mean, you know I’m always down for taking risks, but after that meeting this seems like it may actually be dangerous. This is TSK we’re talking about. The FBI are looking into it, so why don’t you just let them handle it? Come on, let’s have a drink and watch some TV.’

‘Andie, I can’t let it go. You know me, I’m not good at being in the dark and I have no guarantee that the FBI will share what they find with me. How could they in a case this big? You saw how evasive they were about giving more details. I’m lucky they’ve even told me as much as they have, and that was only because they think I can help in some way. Besides, I’m not putting myself in danger by just calling him.’

‘You may already be putting yourself in danger by spending time with Cris, you heard what they said about him being their prime suspect.’

‘That’s why I need to find out more, Andie. If there’s someone it could be instead of Cris, then I have to know, and Adam seems like a good possibility,’ I said, refocusing on my phone screen.
