“You don’t need our help, do you?” Felisha calls over her shoulder as the two girls take a spot on the couch.
“I don’t know about Harper, but I’ve seen your cooking skills, my dear,” Flynn yells to her, “so it would be safer for all of us if you stay right there.”
Harper replies straight after, “Hey, I baked a pie.”
And I can’t help but burst out laughing. “Oh, and wasn’t that entertaining. But I’m sure it will taste amazing later.” I wink at her from the kitchen.
“Asshole,” she yells back at me as I see Felisha grabbing her attention, and then there is a lot of whispering and hands moving in an intense conversation between them.
As Flynn and I finish unloading and he starts pulling out the pots and pans he needs for whatever he is cooking, he keeps side-eyeing me, and just as I’m about to leave the kitchen, he grabs me and drags me into the walk-in pantry.
“What the hell was going when I walked in here, just now?” Flynn and I are close but have never been this kind of close until the last year when everything with Felisha happened and he needed me. In a different way than he has leaned on me since he was a child. This was an emotional connection that we cemented, and it was something I didn’t realize how much I wanted until I finally had it.
“Nothing,” I say but don’t mean it.
“Bullshit. Try again. This is me you are talking to,” he replies in a loud whisper.
“I can’t talk about it,” I tell him, hoping that he drops it so I don’t have to break the decision that Harper came up with to keep this between us.
“You don’t have to. You’ve slept with her again, but this time it’s more, I can tell. The attraction was written all over both your faces when I walked in on whatever was about to happen.”
“Well, my advice would be don’t use your key going forward. Might be best if you knocked first.” I turn and walk out of the pantry before it looks suspicious and leave him there smiling like a Chesire cat and doing thrusting movements with his hips.
“Grow up,” I mouth to him.
To which he replies, mouthing back at me, “Never.” And I don’t doubt it.
