“Yeah, keeping it between us is best for the moment. Appreciate it. Will check in with you tomorrow. Bye.” Rem pulls the phone from his ear and doesn’t even stop to take a breath, turning straight to me and repeating the intel.
“Harper is fine, but there has been a further development overnight in the States. Chester has started searching on how to enter the UK with a criminal record.”
“Fuck,” I hiss, anger running rampant through me.
“We know he doesn’t have the funds for a private jet, but he’s thinking outside the box, and we all know that’s dangerous. They still have eyes on him, so there is no immediate threat, but he is getting more focused on how to get to her, and none of us are happy about that.” Rem looks at me, waiting for me to speak.
“Don’t tell her,” I demand.
“I agree, Sandon knows and understands that this stays with us.” Nic and Flynn both nod at him, and I glare daggers between the three of them.
“Not a word to your partners. Not a single damn word.” I can tell by the look in their eyes that they know I’m serious.
“We understand.” Rem places his hand on my arm, trying to calm me.
“No!” I grunt. “You don’t. I don’t want her to feel more frightened than she already does. She is so much more vulnerable than you all think. I need to protect her from this,” I shout, waving my hand in the air. “All of it.”
I take a breath, and for the first time ever, I show vulnerability. “I get it now. What happened to you all. I get it.” I hang my head, and Flynn starts patting me on the back.
“It’s okay, Forrest, it happens to the best of us, and all I’ll say is buckle yourself in, Brother. Things are about to get rocky, and I don’t mean with this fucked-up stalker business.”
“Can’t wait,” I grumble because I know he is right.
I know she’s mine, but I’m not sure she is ready to accept that yet. And she’s certainly not even close to wanting me to be hers for more than a night.
“Rem.” Flynn pulls out his wallet and throws two fifty-pound notes on the table. “He doesn’t need to answer any more, and I think we can see it’s so much more than that, so let’s leave that conversation alone now.” His eyes tell me that he has my back, and I didn’t realize how much I needed to know that until right now.
