Brian remained silent.
He ripped the halves in half again and dropped them onto our desks. Michelle’s fluttered off the edge and slid three feet away on the floor.
“Now we all know what we need to do. We can add them all to one document or email our parts to you, Michelle. I’m sure your brain couldn’t handle not proofing everyone’s stuff before we turn it in. For the presentation, we need one person to stand up there and say all the words.”
“I can do it.” She shot up out of her seat and almost knocked her desk over again.
“We’ll all get our work in for the paper by Saturday. It gives us a few days to get it figured out. Then we can move onto the presentation.”
“Aren’t you doing the Titan Combine in two weeks?” Brian spoke up for the first time since we’d shoved our desks together in the back of the room.
“Maybe.” Dare shrugged. “I’ll deal.”
Michelle re-adjusted her papers, clacking them against the desktop. “Perfect. I can set up the doc and invite everyone to edit.”
The bell rang, freeing us.
I swiped everything off my desk and into my bag, abandoning the pencil lost in the great escape. Flinging the bag over my shoulder, I shoved my desk back into place, cutting off Dare’s path to me.
I was around the corner before he caught up with me.
“I’ve never had to work this hard to talk to someone before.”
“There’s an easy way to solve that. Stop trying to talk to me.” I stopped to face him, since whatever was going on with him didn’t seem to be wearing off.
“Why won’t you talk to me?” With his long legs, it didn’t matter how fast I walked—it was a stroll to him.
“Why do you want to talk to me?” I stared at him, trying to ward him off with my blistering gaze, but it only made his smile widen.
“Why are you so defensive?”
“Why are you so evasive?”
His lip quirked up in a way that probably brought most girls to their knees. They’d be a soupy mess of hormones and flustered eye flutters. I’d swerved into that territory for a few minutes here and there, but he wasn’t getting the best of me.
“You don’t remember, do you?” From the way his pupils dilated, my attempt at a sultry voice had worked.
My breath caught at the intense lick of his gaze. His gray eyes never left mine.
He braced his arm on the wall beside me like he was ready for me to fling myself at him as soon as I stopped playing hard to get. He was all steamy smolder smothered in smirk. “Not in the slightest.”
I leaned in closer wanting him to hear every bit of what was coming his way. “Maybe it’s because I remember well enough for both of us.”
His brow furrowed before he recovered and matched my lean. How many other girls had he done the lean and smirk on?
