“It’s just…” Jill took a deep breath and leaned her head back against the couch, looking up at the ceiling. “I don’t know what that’s like. And I don’t know if I can do that. I just don’t think I’m wired that way. To fully trust someone.”
Reagan covered Jill’s hand that was still resting on her knee. “Have you ever tried?”
“No. Not really. I mean, Sam knows me better than anyone else in my life. But she doesn’t know everything. I guess I’m a little hard to get to know.”
“Well, no shit,” Reagan said with a wink, hoping to take the sting out of that remark.
Jill chuckled briefly before furrowing her eyebrows and shaking her head. “I think that’s the first time I’ve ever voiced that. I know I can be cold and closed off, but I never wanted to analyze that before. Probably because I was raised not to. What is it about you?” she asked, eyes conveying a hint of innocence and hope.
Reagan smiled softly. “I don’t know. Wanna stick around and find out?”
“Yes,” Jill whispered.
“Good.” Reagan leaned forward to capture her lips. So warm and addicting. That was how she had always thought of Jill’s lips. Jill kissed her back, hesitantly at first, as if just speaking her thoughts had been too much and threatened to push her over the edge.
But as soon as Reagan grazed her tongue against Jill’s lower lip, Jill granted her access and pulled Reagan onto her lap. She shivered as Jill’s fingers dipped underneath the bottom of her shirt. A gentle squeeze propelled Reagan’s hips to roll forward, moans escaping from both of them. A knock sounded at the door, and Reagan broke the kiss with a gasp.
“Shit,” Jill muttered as she took a deep breath. “That must be the food.”
Jill shifted beneath her, but Reagan stopped her with a hand on her chest. “I’ll get it.”
“No. I will. It’s my place and I asked you to come over.”
“What I want is for you to stay there. Catch your breath. You’re gonna need it later,” Reagan whispered in her ear. She hopped off Jill’s lap and headed for the door, grabbing cash out of her purse on the way. Holding the bag of food in one hand, she asked, “Chopsticks or forks?”
Jill laughed. “I’m embarrassed to say forks. Could never get the hang of chopsticks. They’re in the drawer left of the dishwasher.”
“Got ’em.” Reagan distributed the food, her mouth watering at the sight and smell of shrimp lo mein. “Ooo, yum. What do you have?”
“Beef and broccoli,” Jill said around a mouthfull of food. “Sorry. I don’t think I’ve eaten anything since breakfast.”
“No worries. Wanna watch a movie?”
