Jill smiled and squeezed Reagan’s hand. She didn’t think there would be an issue, but she didn’t imagine this was how Reagan would find out.

She opened her mouth to say more, but Carly broke in with a small shout. “I love this song. Let’s dance!” She grabbed Gwen’s hand and pulled her to the other side of the bar.

“Care to dance?” Reagan asked as she rested her arm along Jill’s chair and lightly scratched at the base of her neck.

“Will I get to run after you and make out with you in the hallway?”

“Who knows. The night is young,” Reagan replied, slipping off her chair and holding her hand out.

Jill let herself be led to the dance floor where Carly was already turning Gwen in a circle. She wasn’t lying when she said she liked this song. Over the course of the next several songs, they danced together in a small circle.

After breaking up in pairs, Jill wrapped her arms around Reagan’s shoulders and swayed to the music. She naturally melted into her, smiling when Reagan leaned in for a soft kiss to her neck. They danced and laughed until Reagan checked her watch and gave Jill a look of regret.

“It’s getting late. I think I need to head out,” Reagan said into Jill’s ear.

Jill nodded as Reagan told Gwen and Carly the same thing. They made their way back to the table and Jill and Reagan put on their coats.

“What time do you leave in the morning for Michigan?” Carly asked.

Reagan and her mom were heading to a cabin her family rented every year for the next week. She groaned. “We’re leaving at six. Thankfully my mom will drive first.”

“Drive safe and text us when you get there,” Carly replied, giving Reagan a hug.

When she let go, Jill held out her hand to Carly. “It was nice to meet you. Without yelling this time,” she said with a smile.

Carly ignored her hand and pulled her in for a hug. “Likewise. Can’t wait to see you again.”

“Thanks, Carly.”

Gwen eyed her a little more hesitantly but opened her arms. As Jill stepped into them, Gwen whispered in her ear, “Don’t hurt her. She’s been hurt enough.”

“I know. I’ll do my best not to,” Jill replied as she pulled away.

“Good enough. And I’ll try to stop being an ass.”

“Good luck with that.” Jill fought to keep a straight face.

Gwen chuckled. “Get out of here. Reagan, text us when you get to the cabin.”

“Will do.”

Jill took hold of Reagan’s hand and turned toward the door. As they stepped into the chilly air, Reagan stayed silent, but huddled closer to Jill as they walked.
