Reagan found Jill chatting with a blond woman whose back was to her. She breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that the night was almost over. Soon it would be time to indulge in Jill.
Jill and Sam watched Reagan work the room, but every few seconds Reagan caught Jill’s eye.
Sam snapped her fingers in front of Jill. “Who’s that?”
Jill’s attention pulled back to Sam, who stood in front of her with her arms crossed and a raised eyebrow. “What?”
“Who’s the hottie over there that’s undressing you with her eyes?”
“She is not.” Jill looked back at Reagan and found that Sam was right, and her face flushed. She let out a breath and tore her gaze away. “That’s Reagan.”
Sam’s eyes widened. “Reagan? As in ran-away-from-you-at-the-bar Reagan?”
“The one and the same.”
“Shit. She’s gorgeous, Jill. Since you seemed to scare her away, mind if I take a run at her?” Sam winked at her before turning her attention toward Reagan.
“You’d better not. And I didn’t scare her away. We’re kind of dating, actually.”
“You’re shitting me. How did you manage…crap. Here she comes.”
Jill turned with a composed smile as Reagan approached. What she really wanted to do was take her by the hand and leave, but she still needed to make the rounds one last time to appease her mother. “Reagan, hello.”
“Ms. Jacobs, I hope you enjoyed the party. Was everything to your liking?” Reagan asked, biting the corner of her bottom lip.
Jill stared at Reagan’s mouth until she realized what she was doing and shook her head to clear her thoughts. “It was.” She turned and nodded to Sam. “Reagan, I’d like you to meet my friend, Samantha.”
Sam shook her hand, holding on longer than Jill would have liked. “Pleasure to meet you, Reagan. Please call me Sam.”
“It’s nice to meet you. How do you two know each other?”
“We grew up together. Families ran in the same circle,” she replied as she gestured to the room. “College roommates too.”
Reagan’s eyes lit up. “Interesting. So you’re who I need to talk to when I want some embarrassing information about this one, huh?” she asked with a nod toward Jill.
“Oh, yes.” Sam grabbed her clutch off the table and pulled a card out of it. “Here. Call me sometime. To chat. For a drink. Anything you want.”
A light blush dotted Reagan’s cheeks. “Thanks, but I think I’m all set on the drinks.”
Jill sucked in a quick breath at the charged look Reagan sent her way. She wanted to say something, but Reagan spoke before she could.
“If you’ll excuse me. I need to finish clearing everything out of here. Have a good night, ladies.” Reagan lightly brushed her fingers against the back of Jill’s hand.
