River nodded. “Whatever happens—with this relationship, with the team, with life—you’ll always have us. Even if we aren’t together anymore, we’ll still share Huey. You’ll never have to go it alone again.”
The lump in my throat grew bigger. “Okay.”
Rigby whooped. “On that note, I call dibs. You’re mine tonight, Fireball.”
River huffed. “That’s not fair. We should rock-paper-scissors for it.”
“Or let Nova choose,” Devan added sarcastically.
But Rigby was already picking me up in his arms. “You guys are just sore losers. You gotta be quicker next time, old man!”
“I’m only eleven months older than you,” River yelled behind us, but Rigby was already taking the stairs two at a time, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
RIGBY
We were in my room, but now I was nervous. I hadn’t been this nervous to have a girl in my room since the ninth grade and Mom said Cindy Kershaw could come over to do homework. That was the first day I ever saw naked breasts, and it cemented my love of boobies for life.
I didn’t want this to be awkward, where we both stood around shuffling from foot to foot, so I didn’t allow it to be. I just didn’t put her down. I shuffled her around so she was clinging to me like a baby koala.
“Hold on! I have to put my stuff away.”
My bags were all over the bed, and that just wouldn’t do. I had plans. Fantasies. This night didn’t have to be perfect, but I wanted it to be so good that she’d never forget, like me and Cindy Kershaw’s boobs. This moment would be forever imprinted on both our memories, and I’d rather it wasn’t shudder-inducing.
Well, only the good kind of shudders.
“Rigby, put me down!”
I just banded my arm tighter around her waist. “Nope. I haven’t seen you all week, and I’m not ready to let you go yet. I’m soaking you in.” I snuggled my face into the crook of her neck, kissing it softly through the curtain of her hair. “This is a therapeutic treatment. It’s clinically proven that heavy doses of Nova in my arms aids in my recovery from a long week of sports.”
I shoved my bags onto the ground and tossed her on the bed. She squealed out a laugh, which made my heart immediately lighter. Fuck, I wanted to hear the sound of her laughter every hour of the day. I almost picked her up and tossed her again just so I could get a repeat hit of serotonin.
Instead, I leaned over, slotting my body between her beautiful thighs. “You want me to be fully recovered, don’t you?”
