  25. About the Author

Megan glanced out of the window at the sky. It was dotted with fluffy, marshmallow clouds. Dylan might have had some odd quirks and been controlling, but he’d never made her worry about her personal safety. “Okay. I’ll drop a text, but I doubt he’ll show up. He knows it’s over.”

“We just don’t want him round here plastered, thinking he can persuade you to go back to him,” Brendon said.

“And he is very persuasive,” Georgie added.

“I know, but it’s fine. He’ll meet someone else and it will all work itself out. I’ll be a distant memory.” Damn, she hoped that was the truth. Really and truly she did.

“Talking of meeting someone else,” Brendon said, puffing up his chest and sitting straighter. “Now you’re a single gal, have you seen Hot Guy lately?” He waggled his eyebrows.

Hot Guy. Oh yeah, now he was hot. Scorching, in fact. Megan had seen him regularly over the last few months wandering past her office morning and evening, and occasionally dropping into Frank’s Bar for a drink. She’d never spoken to him, though, just enjoyed his tall, dark handsomeness from afar. He always looked like he was deep in thought, brooding, concentrating on something important. She often wondered what was going through his mind.

Several times she’d sat in Frank’s with a glass of wine and hoped he might come over and speak to her. Their eyes had met—it wouldn’t have been a ridiculous thing to happen. But he never had, he’d always stayed seated and apparently listening to the live music or mulling over his day. If she’d had her engagement ring on she would have understood the lack of contact.

“Yes, I did see him actually,” she said. “He came past at his usual time on Friday and ducked into Frank’s.”

“Mmm, and was he looking all dashing and pant-droppingly sexy?” Brendon licked his lips salaciously.

Megan’s heart sank at the memory. “No, well yes, but—”

“There’s a but?” Brendon slapped his palm over his chest. “Oh no. Pray tell.”

“Yes, last time I saw him he was with someone, a woman.” Megan frowned and shook her head. “No, a girl really, well definitely legal age, you know, but she looked much too young for him. Skinny and blonde, tatty jeans and a Burberry mac.”

“Ah, you see,” Brendon said, shaking his head, “snooze you lose.”

“Well hold your horses…” Georgie held up her hand. “There might be an explanation. Daughter, perhaps?”

“He’s not that old,” Megan said. “Anyway…” She gave a defeated sigh. “Like Brendon said, snooze you lose, and while he’s been having a great time with his young hottie, I’ve been untangling myself from Dylan, so it obviously wasn’t meant to be.”
