- About the Author
“I told him to,” Megan said. “Seemed silly to waste more money, and let’s face it, everyone here was talking about him, he didn’t need to hear it all and be pitied. Getting away seemed the best thing. I can handle the heat, it’s my heat. Besides, him and Sean have always been good mates.”
Georgie sighed and sat on a stool. “Yeah, well, Sean said he’s in bits, but we guessed that, and it’s early days.”
“Yes,” Brendon acknowledged. “It is very soon. He needs to grieve for our Megan.”
“I’m not dead.”
“You are to him.”
Megan picked up her wine and took a gulp. “What else did Sean say?”
“He got a tattoo while they were on your honeymoon.” Georgie tapped her chest. “Apparently it’s of a rose and it’s on his chest, over his heart.”
“What?” Megan stood from the box she’d been perched on. “What a knob. That can’t be true.”
“It is. And he told Sean it was because you’d always be in his heart. Sean said he tried to stop him but there was no way on this Earth he could talk him out of it.”
“That’s crazy.”
Brendon spun his index finger by his ear and made a bird-whistle sound. “Cuckoo.”
“He wouldn’t have done that if we’d got married. He always said he didn’t like tattoos.”
“But you didn’t get married and it seems being rejected has sent him into a tailspin,” Georgie said.
“I didn’t reject him, I just…didn’t want to marry him.”
“Same thing.” Brendon sat on the sofa. Gucci jumped onto his lap and started licking his chin.
“He got wrecked, every night, Sean said. Spent the whole time hatching plans to get you back. Trying to figure out what he’d done wrong, what he needed to change.”
“Shit!” Megan placed her palm over her forehead. Sure, he’d been upset when she’d spoken to him on the phone, but he hadn’t sounded like he was that mental.
“Sean said it was the, and I quote, ‘worst fucking holiday of his life’.”
“I bet it was,” Brendon said. “A week with miserable Dylan. I’d have hung myself from the balcony even if there was all the free tequila I could drink.”
“God, I felt bad before, now I feel terrible.” Megan shook her head.
“No, you mustn’t,” Georgie said. “And I didn’t tell you so you’d feel bad, only so that, you know, if he calls or comes round, maybe drop one of us a text or something and we’ll pop over. I think safety in numbers would be the best policy here.”
“He’d never hurt me.” Megan was shocked that they might think that.
“We know he wouldn’t,” Brendon said. “But still, we’d rather one of us was around if he decides he wants to…talk.”
