- About the Author
“He was round again, last night and this morning. He’s in a bad way, a sad way. He’s messed it up big time between me and James and to be honest, he’s making it hard to get my life back on track.”
“Why? What happened?”
“I’ll tell you later. I’ll call when I get there.”
“Where? Get where?”
“I don’t know yet.” Megan felt bad for worrying Georgie like this. She could hear the alarm in her friend’s voice.
“Why don’t you know? Bloody hell, Megan, you’re scaring me. What’s going on?”
“I’m fine. I promise. But I’m in a rush. I need to get away for a bit. I’ll explain everything later. Bye.”
“Don’t go.”
“I have to.”
“Okay, okay, but call me back sooner than when you…get there, wherever there is.”
“I will. From the airport okay.”
“Airport…”
“I love you. I’ll make it up to you.”
“I love you too, and if it’s what you need to do then I’m behind you, one hundred percent, but be careful and stay in touch, okay.”
“I will, I promise. Bye for now.”
She hung up and instantly dialled Brendon’s number.
“I was just about to call you,” he said. “How did you sleep?”
“Not well. And I’ve seen Dylan again. He was hanging about near the office when I went in at seven.”
“What?” He gasped. “We need to get the police involved. This is serious.”
“He won’t listen to them. He won’t listen to anyone. He’s obsessed, Brendon.”
“He’ll have to.”
“Well yes, maybe. But for now I’m off.”
Silence.
“I’m off,” she said again.
“Where?” Unlike Georgie his voice was low and calm.
“I don’t know. I’m going to head to Heathrow and get the first flight out that has a spare seat.”
“That’s crazy talk.”
“Well maybe that’s what Dylan and James have done to me, sent me round the bloody bend.”
“No, I’ll tell you what they’ve done, they’ve made you put on your running shoes.”
Running shoes?
Brendon was right. That’s exactly what she was doing, she was running. Something she’d got pretty damn good at of late. But what the hell. Running suited her down to the ground. Running felt good, better than anything else she could think of doing.
“And what about Ralph and Jayne, you have one more appearance with them.”
“It’s cancelled.”
“What?”
“That’s just the way it is. I’m sorry I really am grateful but… Listen, I have to go. I’ve told Georgie I’m off for a bit, but I didn’t have time to fill her in on the details. Tell her if you get to her first, if not I’ll call her from…”
“From wherever on the planet you end up.”
“Yes.”
