- About the Author
“But it’s on my to-do list.” She tapped a bit of paper on the table. “So it will get done, if it’s on the list, it always gets done.”
“And cancel my last appearance on the Ralph and Jayne show. I’m not doing it.” Was she really saying that? Yes, she had to prioritise her sanity at this point in time. There’d be other opportunities, she’d make sure of it. Bigger ones, more glamorous ones, she knew what she wanted and she’d go out and get it.
“Consider it done. Now you take care.” Enid smiled kindly and without any judgment about the sudden decisions.
“Thank you.” Megan grabbed her bag. “I mean it, thank you so much. I’ll call, later, or tomorrow. And, Enid…I’m so glad you’re here. Really I am, I can’t say how much…” If she’d known the older woman better she’d have hugged her, but she was all off kilter and didn’t want to freak out her one and only employee any more than she probably was.
“Go, it’s fine. I’ve got it.” Enid smiled, sat then pushed at the sleeves on her powder-blue cardigan. “And take care.”
Megan didn’t need telling twice. She practically ran from the office, leaving the keys in the door so Enid could come and go as she pleased. She’d give her a raise for this.
There were a few people milling about and she dashed past them to the main street hoping she wouldn’t suddenly hear Dylan’s footsteps behind her or him calling her name.
She didn’t.
Her head was now spinning with possibilities. Where should she go? What should she do?
She’d watched a film once about a man who just turned up at the airport and demanded a ticket for the first flight out of Paris. He’d had enough of his life and it was his way of letting fate take control.
That’s what she’d do.
She’d go to Heathrow and buy the first available seat out of the UK. It could be Brazil, Cairo, Sydney—didn’t matter so long as she wasn’t in London.
She flagged a cab, unable to face the Tube, and headed for home. She pulled her phone out once more.
“Last chance, James.”
Nothing.
She dialled Georgie who answered on the third ring. “Hey you, what’s up?”
“Everything, Georgie, I’m out of here.”
“What?” There was shock in her best friend’s voice. “Why? What’s happened?”
“Nothing and everything. I can’t stay in London. I need a break. A bit of me time. Enid is awesome, I have every faith in her, so I’m going to duck out of living for a while.”
“Duck out of living. What the hell are you talking about?”
Megan sighed. “Dylan.”
“What about Dylan?”
