  25. About the Author

“There.” He jabbed his thumb over his shoulder. “That bar opposite.”

Not a chance in hell. “Okay.” She nodded. “What time?”

“Seven.”

“Yes. I’ll see you then.” Lying didn’t usually come easy to Megan but these were exceptional circumstances, not to mention self-preservation. “Seven. We’ll talk more then.”

He grinned. Obviously chalking it up as a victory and a step closer to winning her back. “Be there, or I’ll come looking for you.”

“I’ll see you later, Dylan. But right now I’ve got work to do.” She pointed at her desk. “Goodbye.” She didn’t wait for him to reply, just clicked her phone off.

He lowered his from his ear then blew her a kiss.

As quickly as he’d appeared he vanished. The light streamed once again into her office the moment his big bulk moved from view.

Sitting heavily on her chair, she hugged her arms around herself. What a bloody disastrous situation. And could it be any more unnerving? Dylan had been stalking her for the last couple of weeks. Making her doubt her sanity and putting her on edge. She’d almost thought she was imagining things yet all along he’d been tailing her.

If she could transport herself a million miles away, right this minute she would. She’d jump on a boat, a plane…a rocket if necessary. She was living a nightmare. One man she didn’t want hounding her, and one man she did want so desperately her bones ached, ignoring her.

Or was he?

She quickly unlocked her iPhone and scrolled to messages. James had an iPhone too, she’d be able to see if he’d read her text.

She scanned the tiny writing beneath her words.

Yes.

He’d read it a few minutes ago.

But there was no reply.

Well probably he’d answer soon, then she’d be able to tell him everything. Well, not everything, but certainly explain who Dylan was.

She set the phone aside and stood. Put the kettle on then waved at one of the estate agents who walked past her window and looked in.

He was early, but she was glad. It made her feel less isolated. Dylan could still be hanging about.

How long was she going to have to cope with this? Maybe if she and James could work things out, Dylan would see her with a new boyfriend—she smiled a little at the thought of calling him that—and he’d give up the ghost of them. Stop hounding her to get back with him. The words on the note he’d put through her door in the night played on her mind.

You are the love of my life. I will have you in my life. I will get you back. Soon.

What did he mean? What lengths was he prepared to go to? And what did soon mean?
