I definitely don’t want him wrapping his arms around me and pulling me close to him for a hard-passionate kiss.

Nope.

I don’t feel a thing.

Did I barely sleep last night thinking about how gorgeous he looked with his messy hair?

No, it is just the jitters of the first day at the office.

She sighs. “I can just picture it. He’ll come downstairs later today to profess his love. You’ll forgive him and then I’ll get to be your maid of honor.”

“Stop making up stories or I’ll fire you,” I half-joke.

As we step into my office, I shut the door and slump into the couch. Thank God I didn’t trip and we have furniture where I can fall apart. My knees are trembling. Adrenaline surges through my veins. It’s like I ran a hundred-yard dash in just ten seconds. I reached the end line and won. I should be celebrating but I’m too uneasy and tired to do so.

I feel an ache in my chest. Coming home feels right but incomplete. I want to celebrate my victory over Miller. Is it ridiculous to want to hug him and kiss him while enjoying my triumph over him?

I’ve been craving his lips and arms since last night. Stop, you’re here to work and eliminate him—if you have time.

What about one last kiss before I maim him?

“I wouldn’t be able to date either,” Danielle says.

“What?”

“Everything makes sense. The man embargo is because of him. Your hot as fuck ex-boyfriend. After dating that man…”

I take off my shoes and stand up, pointing at her. “Wait a minute. My dateless life has nothing to do with that arrogant bastard.”

“Uh-huh,” she says, shaking her head and pacing around my office. “You’re also going to deny the tension and sexual frustration that took over the air as soon as the elevator doors opened.”

I roll my eyes. “Really, you’re going to use my lack of sex to justify your insanity?”

“You can deny it, but that man wanted to fuck you, and you could use his dick to release the tension you’ve been carrying since the last time you slept with him.”

“Love your professionalism,” I say, glaring at her. “Nothing says we’re a serious agency like the words dick and fuck.”

She rolls her eyes. “Your foul mouth is worse than mine, but that’s not the point. You need to get laid and that’s a fine specimen. Dark, tall, broody, and from the look of his shoe size, his cock must be long and hopefully thick.”

Yes, one last ride.

Danielle snaps her fingers and says, “Yes, I recall you saying Miller Archer was well-endowed and the best sex you’ve ever had.”
