For now, Ross uses them to guide me to the couch and we sit. Our thighs bump against each other, but neither of us pulls away.

“Listen,” they say. The look on Ross’s face is open, excited, hungry. Nothing about them hints at indecision or uncertainty. “I’m going with the flow here. I’ve come to realize that human lips aren’t so bad, and kissing is actually kind of fun. The Elders always said to explore our human bodies, and the Blue brought me to you, and you’ve wanted to act like a real couple, so why don’t we just do that all the time. Not just when Dominic is around. Let’s make the most of my time up here, and the more we practice the better we’ll look when Dominic is around. It’s all still going toward the same goal of you getting him back and me going back home, but can’t we have some fun while we do it?”

“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” I mumble.

“Huh?” Ross says, but I’m too lost in my thoughts to respond.

Being offered the chance to act like a boyfriend to somebody without actually being their boyfriend was something I never saw coming. Outside of when it was in front of Dominic and all a hoax, that is. And even though it’s stupid, part of me still feels like this could be a betrayal to D.

Like they can read my mind, Ross adds, “Besides, Dominic gets to kiss Miguel whenever he wants on his way to realizing you’re the one, so why can’t you have that too?”

That’s when everything clicks into place. Ross is absolutely right. I’m over here being this super-faithful person, when for the past month Dominic has been anything but faithful to me. He can’t expect me to just wait around while he gets all this action. My body definitely likes having fun with Ross, Ross is saying loud and clear they like it too, so why not? It’s No Strings Attached. It’s Friends with Benefits. It’s Just Go With It. It’s all kinds of rom-com titles that actually apply here.

“You’re right,” I say. “What happens in the bungalow, stays in the bungalow.”

I lunge forward and grab their face with my hands, kissing Ross with everything I’ve got. Their skin is so smooth beneath my rough fingers, but the feeling is gone nearly as soon as it starts. I open my eyes to find Ross pulling my hands away from their cheeks.

“I’m moving too fast, aren’t I?” I ask.

Ross shakes their head. “That’s not it. But let’s rethink that face grab. It’s a little too confining. Like you’re saying ‘You can’t escape’ with your hands.”
