I cover my face and groan. Yes, it’s pretty impressive that she can think so quick on her feet, but I do not need her singing songs about my junk all day. “Okay, get this out now before we get to Ross’s place.”

Kavya clutches her chest. “What? You don’t think Ross would like my music? Maybe I should add singer-songwriter to my long list of attributes.”

I whap her in the shoulder and say, “Stick to swimming.”

“Um, I’ll have you know my ‘Banana Hammock Harmony’ is impossible to resist. Or at least it is for Ross. Maybe impossible’s not the right word.” The glint in her eye warns me I’m about to get slapped with a terrible pun. “Hard. It’s hard for them.”

Knew it.

“I swear as each day goes by you become more and more of a bro.”

Kavya shrugs. “I can’t help who I am. I’ve said it countless times: I’m everyone’s favorite Indian American bisexual, thick, singer-songwriter, swimming bro.”

“I bet the competition for that title is fierce,” I deadpan.

Kavya doesn’t skip a beat. “You’d be surprised. Anyway, my point is, you and Ross both have feelings for each other, and it’ll be really easy to get carried away with that. But you two need to keep your eyes on the prize: Dominic for you, the Blue for Ross. Don’t attach strings when they’re not supposed to be there to begin with.”

I think about all the times D, me, and Kavya would drive around in Suri Cruiser. Me and Kavya always up front, Dominic in the back playing DJ. She’d always poke at his taste in music going for dude country most of the time. She only ever teased people like that when she liked them, but then that playful poking turned to full-on bashing as soon as he dumped me. The quick switch made me wonder if I imagined that she even liked him to begin with. But now here she is making sure I stay focused on winning him back.

“Why are you so pro-Dominic all of a sudden?” I ask.
