And thank you to all at The Soho Agency, especially Isabelle Wilson, for all your continued support. I’m very proud to be part of your team.
To all my book-world friends, thank you so much for everything. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned the Trying Times TM & © 2020 but honestly, without you to bitch, moan, laugh, cry, commiserate and sulk with, I’m not sure I would be writing this now. Mhairi McFarlane, Lia Louis, Kevin Dickson, Paige Toon, Giovanna Fletcher, Louise Pentland, Marian Keyes, Kwana Jackson, Sarra Manning, Lauren Ho, Sally Thorne, Helly Acton, Jane Fallon, Lucy Vine, Claire Frost, Rosie Walsh, Gillian McAllister, Holly Seddon, Holly Bourne, Rowan Coleman, Julie Cohen, Isabelle Broom, Andrea Bartz and heaps of other people I’m forgetting in this moment for understanding and supporting and being generally brilliant. Whether it was a brief Tweet, the odd DM or a deep dive into the cultural impact of the work of Taylor Swift (you know who you are), I am SO APPRECIATIVE OF YOU.
As ever, I’m only able to do this because I am propped up by my friends and family at all times: Jeff, Bobby, Lesley & Walter White, Della Bolat, Julian Burrell, Kevin Dickson, Louise Doyle, Philippa Drewer, Emma Gunavardhna, Tal Harris & Kasia Kowalcyzk, Emma Ingram, Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and of course, Terri White, all more than earned their money on this one. Pals, your cheques are in the post. A million more of you are cursing my name right now. Sorry, I’ve been writing this for ages and I’m shit, as you know.
There is still part of me that can’t quite believe this book exists. It was written and edited through one of the most challenging years on record and this time not just for me but for all of us, and so I say this with a full heart, if you’re holding it in your hands right now, this book was written for you. I usually reject anything that sounds like an Instagram wellness slogan immediately and without question but this one I believe whole-hearetedly – we didn’t come this far to only come this far. Work out what you want and get after it, time is ticking.
