Even though the Writer thinks that everything is possible, he was very surprised when he clearly heard the Canyon of the Wind laughing. It seemed as though it was making fun of the Princess.
How long have I been here, Odai? -- asked the Canyon. -- Years, many years, long before the parents of your great-grandparents were children. -- It seemed as though the Canyon was slowly shifting, so slow that you could barely notice, but it was shifting... I swear, Reader, it was. -- I have been here since the beginning of time.
The Princess started to cry again. The voice of the Canyon became a roar.
You are a fool! -- yelled the Canyon. -- Look at you! Look at the things you worry about, they are insignificant! Your life is so short that it will pass, just as everything else passes and I will still be here, slowly transforming. You are nothing compared to the vastness of the universe.
Why are you telling me this? Can’t you see that I’m already miserable because everything is against me?
Do you really think that you are so important? -- asked the Canyon. -- Do you really think that the entire world will end because of your problems or your fears? Never! Even though it seems to, it is not so. Stop tormenting yourself over nothing; stop filling your short life with fears and worries that will lead you nowhere.
But I don’t know what the future has in store for me.
Why do you care so much about the future? -- The Canyon roared. -- Why are you so intent on finding certainty in everything? The only certain thing, the only thing you can be sure of, is that one day, you will not be here anymore. Enjoy what you have.
But I don’t have anything!
You have everything you need -- said the Canyon. -- Dare to conquer the vertigo you feel from life, and dive in. DIVE IN! You should learn from the baby eagle jumping out of the nest for the first time to realize that it can fly, learn from its trust in life. You are a perfect being just like everything else around you. You need to understand that you have a specific mission, just like everything in nature does. Find it and discover in yourself the reason for being, the purpose of your existence.
The Canyon was silent and the only sound was the whispering wind, and in the distance... the voice of the Dragon, yelling that he had found some eggs for dinner.
They are going to be delicious, Princess.
That night the Princess couldn’t sleep. The Canyon’s words echoed in her thoughts.
What does my life mean? -- she thought -- Where do I go from here? What am I doing? How did I... or how did life get me into this?
