  48. About the Author

“I wish we could say goodbye, and he could teleport back here. I mean, I’ll be sad, too, but I’ll have Lynn, and we’ll be busy working on the room.”

“But Sawyer will be alone in his hotel room brooding.”

“Which is why I was hoping you’d come with us. You’re a local. I had so much fun when we hung out there. You could take him to that cute café. Or, you know, just…distract him.”

She sure could. Eve bit back a smile. But also, he was going to be upset, maybe more than he realized. “Have you told him yet?”

Clara heaved a sigh.

“Just tell him! I promise he’s not going to care. His eyes will get really big and he’ll be shocked for a second, but then he’ll realize that it all makes sense in retrospect.”

“So what are you saying? You’ll only come with us if I tell him?”

“No! No!” Eve didn’t understand why Clara kept putting this off, but it wasn’t for her to understand. “I’ll come with you regardless, assuming it’s okay with Sawyer.”

“Will you ask him? I think he’ll take it better coming from you. I don’t want to damage his sensitive masculine pride.”

Eve laughed. She was pretty sure he was going to jump at the chance to have other sensitive masculine parts of him tended to in a hotel room in Toronto. She had gotten really good at that, if she did say so herself. Nearly five months of sleeping together—as adults who didn’t have to hide from Lucille and had an entire empty inn at their disposal—had afforded her lots of opportunities for practice.

It was a little jarring to think of how little time they had left. But it was for the best. She’d had fun, but her new job and her debt-free future loomed.

“I’ll ask him. But just think about telling him before you leave, okay? I think it will be a relief.”

“Okay.” Another big sigh. “I’ll tell him. Soon.”

Eve had her chance to ask Sawyer later that day, when he walked by the inn while she was outside eating more raspberry things.

“Try this.” She handed him half a sandwich.

“This is great. What is it, and where did you get it?”

“It’s a raspberry-brie-honey grilled cheese, and Law is selling them at his stand outside the bar. He has a panini press going.”

“That’s quite a step up from crappy frozen pizza.”

“He told me he’s thinking of expanding the food options at the bar.”

“He did?”

“You don’t think it’s a good idea?”

“No. It’s a great idea. He’s classed the place up since his dad retired. It’s becoming known for wine and craft beer, so food is probably a logical next move.”
