She stopped when Mia’s cell phone rang again.
“Sorry,” Mia said. “I have to take this.” She got up from the table and disappeared into the hallway. Henrik heard her answer, “Hey, Martin.”
He sighed, turning back to Ida.
“Tell me, what was it you saw?”
“What I saw when I was standing there was a woman walking away from the building, or maybe she was just walking past, I have no idea. I noticed her because she was so, like, well dressed. She didn’t really fit in there, if you get what I mean.”
“Explain it to me.”
“Well, it’s not often you see people like her in the area.”
“Ida, now, you’re being mean toward the people who live there,” Magnus said.
“But how can I explain it, then? Okay, she looked like a rich bitch, is it better to say that? She had straight glossy hair, a totally gorgeous scarf and then a fucking huge BMW that she hopped into. I’m going to have one like it when I move out.”
“Then maybe it’s time for you to start saving your money,” Magnus said.
“Why? Maybe I’ll win the lottery or something, or find a sugar daddy, you never know.”
“No...” He sighed.
“And you’re sure it was a BMW?” Henrik asked.
“Completely. You don’t see cars like that in that area. But maybe I shouldn’t say that, either?”
Ida’s voice stuck in her throat.
“Did you see the license plate of the BMW?”
“No, it was too far away.”
“And did you observe anything else?”
“Well...” She sighed. “I was watching that woman, like, the whole time. But after she’d driven away, I saw a man leave through the door of the building.”
Out of the corner of his eye, Henrik saw Mia appear in the doorway.
“From Robin’s building, I mean,” Ida said. “And...the man got into a car that was parked there on the street.”
“What did he look like?” Henrik asked.
“He had dark hair, dark eyes.”
“Do you remember anything about the car he got into?”
“It was a dark color, that’s it.”
“Type?”
“No, it was just a normal car, like a Volvo or something.”
Henrik felt his heart starting to pound in his chest. He glanced at Mia and saw that she was thinking the same thing. A dark Volvo. Could it be the same car that was at the train station?
