  58. About The Author

But she was worn out. She’d reached her limit and needed rest. I left her with kisses on her thighs before I pulled her off of Jason and laid her head on the pillows. She still had the dress on, although it was torn. Jason crawled up and collapsed beside her, murmuring gently as he kissed her cheek, “We’ll take care of you, princess, just relax. You were so good. I’m so fucking proud of you.”

I smirked as I reached for his bedside drawer and the pocket knife inside it. I flipped it open, using the blade to cut through the last bits of fabric that were clinging to her. She watched me do it with half-lidded eyes, not even flinching when I brought the knife close to her skin.

What an honor to be trusted like that. It almost scared me as I looked at her, her serene face smiling back at me with a tired expression that could only be described as cum-drunk. It scared me because of how it made me feel, how instantly my entire chest clenched.

I knew better than to get attached to things I couldn’t have. Situations, objects, people — I had to keep myself at a distance. But I looked at her and knew I was fucked. The way Jason looked at her, after spending all week withdrawn and feigning disinterest, told me he was feeling the same thing.

We were already sinking in too deep; and I, for one, knew I couldn’t stop.

Now that I finally felt like I could sleep, I didn’t even want to.

The bed really wasn’t big enough for all of us. Jess lay naked on her back with my arm around her, our deep breathing in unison. She felt so warm, her skin sticky with sweat, her muscles still quivering. Vincent had wedged himself into the corner of the bed behind me, slowly scratching my back as he hummed some little tune. Lucas sat at the end of the mattress, leaning against the wall with his legs sprawled out in front of him, and Manson sat right beside him, his knees pulled up as his arms rested limply on them.

I couldn’t bring myself to close my eyes. I liked this sight too much — this beautiful woman laid out beside me and all the people I loved most around me. If I closed my eyes, if I fell asleep, I feared it might all wind up as a dream.

I used to have terrible nightmares like that, imagining that I’d gone back in time and the family I’d found was gone, Vincent was gone, all my freedom — gone. I would wake up in the middle of the night, gasping and shaking with my parents’ words echoing in my head.

I will not have my son living in sin, not under my roof!
