Today was a quiet day. It was sunny—the skies were clear, not a cloud in the sky, but the airport only had two flights on its schedule: one arrival early in the morning, which had occurred before her shift started, and one departure in the afternoon. She was curious to see who it would be. After all, Wang Li’s mother watched the news and was constantly messaging her about how all of the kinds of people who frequented Wang Li’s airport were being arrested for all sorts of crimes. Wang Li knew all of that; one of the arrests had even occurred here at the airport, just as the man named Kang Haichi was trying to run away. That had been the most exciting day of work for her—the swarm of cops, his frankly pathetic blubbering…it had taken everything in Wang Li to not take a video and send it to all of her friends to laugh about it later. He’d always been a creep, anyway. He would have deserved it.
But there was a departure today when there hadn’t been one in days. Who could it be? Another CEO trying to flee the city? Maybe she should have her phone at ready, either to call the police or take a video. She wouldn’t be fired if she just took a personal video, right?
The doors opened.
Two people came in.
