  103. About Sounds True

•  In your journal, describe a truth that slapped you awake. How did it surprise you? Where does this truth live in you now?

•  Though a candle is a small light, it can fill an entire room. In your journal, describe someone in your life who is like a candle. Describe this person’s light, and how they fill you. Describe your own light and how you can fill others. If you haven’t told this person of their light and how it’s touched you, tell them. Knowing the light, feeling the light, and praising the light is a deep form of medicine.

Still Here, Still Wondering

STILL HERE, STILL WONDERING

Now that I’ve left the container
I have to stop being contained.

If you are reading this, no doubt, you or someone you love is hurting or trying not to fall into the canyon of a loss. Not because life is oppressive but because it is mysterious and ever-changing. Yet somehow, we remain alive in spite of the breaks that surprise us, and in love beyond the accidents of time. Still, you might be struggling to restore your trust in life. Or someone you believe in might have lost their way. I hope that something in our journey to this point has been affirming.

After all I’ve been through, I can only say that it’s the Wholeness of Life that renews us. The way the rush of a thousand miles of river lifts a tired fish at the mouth of the delta delivering it into the open sea. It’s the rush of love that overflows our walls to break down the things we believe make us different. When I can give more than I think I’m capable of, then when you suffer, I suffer. When you can admit how little you know, then when you’re made tender by beauty, I’m made tender. To live in wonder on the other side of suffering and disappointment is to know how magnificent and fragile it is to be here at all. Wonder is the key to restoring our trust.
