Hospital elevators always took so long to close, in case someone was hobbling in on crutches.

“Oh.” Cora laughed, breathy and nervous. “Yeah.”

She hit the button.

They moved.

Then stopped again.

“What the hell?” Cora asked, looking around as if she could find answers on the ceiling. “Have we stopped?”

“Considering we aren’t moving, I’d say yes.”

Cora gave Frazer the same look most people did when she was a sarcastic ass. “Thanks. Listen, though.”

They both tilted their heads, focussed.

Frazer shrugged. “Nothing.”

“Exactly.” Cora leant back against the doors. “Nothing.”

“Seriously?” Frazer slid down the wall to sit on the floor, staring up at Cora. “We’re stuck?”

Listlessly, Cora pressed the “help” button. Nothing. “There is zero power. Zilch. Nada. Nothing—”

“Got it.”

“Just making sure.” Cora gave a grin that made Frazer chuckle.

“So why are there lights?”

Looking up as if she’d just noticed that, Cora said, “I don’t know. Maybe separate fuses were blown?”

Frazer nodded like she had any idea what that meant.

After avoiding Cora skilfully for days on end, it was nice to chat with her again. And that was all. Chat.

Were they seriously stuck in an elevator together? How clichéd.

Frazer tried not to think about how Cora had looked naked.

Digging into her deep pockets, Frazer fished out her phone. “No signal. Why is there never any signal in an elevator?”

Cora had her own in hand, staring down at it with an accusatory look. “Seriously?”

“I have a patient arriving. Her water’s broken already.”

“Someone else will be on it.”

Frazer stuck out her bottom lip. “I wanted to be a part of this one.”

Mimicking Frazer, Cora slid down the doors and sat cross-legged. “This specific one was so important to you?”

“I wanted to end on a win since I started this day on an epic fail.”

“Nice and hung-over, are we, Frazer?”

Cora was enjoying this far too much for Frazer’s liking.

“Started with a headache?”

Frazer’s text message hung between them, not replied to and not spoken of.

Okay, maybe not ignored.

“I may have drunk a tad too much last night.” Frazer stuck her legs out, crossing them at the ankle. Her feet sat close to Cora’s knee. An elevator was really small. How had she never noticed that before?

Cora had her hair up. The long line of her neck was open to Frazer’s gaze, and she purposefully kept her eyes away from it.

Her lips had been just there.

Cora’s lips had been on her neck. And her collarbone. Frazer shifted slightly, her thighs clinching together.

Don’t think about it. She’s married.

Still.

“Did you go out with anyone in particular?”

Was it just Frazer’s imagination, or did Cora sound more curious than was normal?
