Frazer swallowed hard. Forced herself to curve her lips up in response. “How’s your day?”
“Meetings and more meetings. You know how it is.”
Actually she didn’t. Thankfully. If she ever took a desk job, Frazer would miss the patients too much. The babies. Even the tragic cases—she’d miss helping parents through that. Her job involved a lot of desk time since she’d been promoted, but she liked being on the rotation for exams like today and on the ward for births, even if there was still five days a week of it.
“Yeah. Busy busy.” She smiled again. It felt like her face was cracking with the effort.
“I got your e-mail. The first training is next week, yes?”
“Yeah—Monday to Friday, from six to eight.”
“Good. And numbers?”
“Still four.”
“And Cora is helping out?”
Obviously. What was going on? “Yeah, each night. We have two midwives and two social workers. We’re hoping we’ll all pool ideas. But it’s also a lot of crisis management. What to do if you’re concerned, if you need Social Services to step in.”
“Good. No lawsuits.” He gave a loud laugh that grated.
Was that why this had taken so long to pass through? Wow. Had Frazer been stupid. Of course it was. Why risk being sued when you could leave these parents to fend for themselves?
“Yeah.” She gritted her teeth. “We wouldn’t want that.”
“Exactly.” Alec gave her a nod. “Great. Well, good luck next week.”
And he disappeared. As she watched him leave, she wondered what Cora was doing with someone like him.
In an effort to avoid the elevator, Frazer took the stairs. Even though she had to go up four flights, she didn’t want to be in a room with Cora, especially a room she couldn’t escape. All the words Frazer wanted to say would fly out of her head.
Finally arriving in front of her office, breathing harder than she should be considering the amount of swimming she did regularly, Frazer entered.
And froze.
Cora was sitting at the table. Two sandwiches sat on the desk in front of her. She, too, was smiling. “Hey,” she said.
As Frazer shut the door behind her, the words she wanted to say started to flit away. “Hey.”
When she was pressed against the door with Cora’s lips against her neck, Frazer managed to find some. “Cora. Wait.”
Her voice wasn’t her own, too low, too husky. Throaty.
Lips against Frazer’s ear, Cora whispered, “Please?”
Groaning, Frazer’s grabbed her and pulled their lips together. Any words she wanted to say flew out of her head completely.

CHAPTER ELEVEN
After a week of sex, Frazer woke up in her bed on Saturday morning alone.
Because she was “the other woman.”
She didn’t get to wake up with Cora wrapped around her, delicious bare skin pressed against her own.
