Rob grabbed Andy’s arm. “Or her old university lecturer.”
“Which one?” Andy snickered. “The cougar, or the new one who resigned afterward because she felt like she’d broken some code of ethics?”
“Oh my God, you are both horrendous!” Or Frazer had been horrendous. Either one. Or both.
Leaning between them to slam her drink down on the bar top, Frazer glared at them.
“I’m going home. Where I’m appreciated.” She grabbed her jacket with more than enough flair to show the depth of her irritation.
They both blinked at her. Like they were so confused. Like they didn’t know how annoying they were.
“By who?” Rob cocked his head. “Your fish?”
Andy was still grinning like a shark. “That butt indent on your couch does miss you, I’m sure.”
Pressing her lips together so as not to show her entertainment at their asshattery, Frazer pulled on her jacket. Her biggest mistake would be to show that she found them funny.
“Oh! I see a smile!” Rob tried to poke her in the stomach.
Damn.
Andy threw an arm around her shoulders. “You know we love you. Don’t go.” She batted her eyelashes. “We just miss you.”
Frazer looked from one puppy dog face to the next and finally sighed. “Fine. But no more talk about dating.”
“Deal.” Rob held up two fingers. “Scout’s honour.”
“Or discussion of my dubious past.”
“Whose dubious past?”
Frazer spun around to laugh delightedly at the sight of Daniel. Finally, someone who normally stuck up for her. She threw her arms around him. Even as Daniel leant forward to drop a kiss on Rob’s lips, she clung to his arm.
“Daniel!” Andy grinned at him, her smile a twin of his. Sometimes Frazer thought they were more like siblings than cousins, but it could just be that they were so close. “We didn’t know you were coming. And we were talking about Frazer’s colourful and exciting past.”
“I don’t have a colourful and exciting past. The word we should be using is dubious.”
All three turned raised eyebrows at Frazer. Even Daniel, the traitor.
“Andy.” Frazer laced all the warning she could into her tone.
Andy made a face, then huffed when Frazer just stared at her. “Fine. No discussions of your awesome past.”
“Dubious.”
“Dubious past, then. Now!” Andy pulled her against the bar and signalled the bartender. “Let’s get you a real drink.”
Frazer was going to regret this.
* * *
Yup. Definitely regretted it.
The next morning, the all-too-familiar feeling of blurry eyes and a headache cheerfully greeted her upon waking.
Thankfully, she was in her bed. With no one next to her.
Once that was confirmed, she fell back against her pillow and groaned.
Alcohol and she should no longer be friends. She was too old for this. She’d been too old for it ten years ago. Or maybe forever ago.
