Rob was staring at Frazer and all she wanted to do was dump her drink on his head. “No.”
There had been enough dancing, figuratively or whatever, to last her a lifetime. Clustered around the bar, taking up all the free stools in their favourite pub, her friends had reached the point at which they started to annoy her to be more social than she wanted. The pub had also reached the point where people started dancing, the music turning up that one decibel too loud. All of this meant Frazer had reached the point when she normally skived off and went home. To her fish. And her comfy, quiet bed.
“Come on.” Andy poked her in the ribs. “We know you cut your date with that receptionist short. Jemma told us.” Leaning forward, Andy eyed her. “Which, by the way, we were very disappointed to hear about from Jemma.” Andy turned her slightly glazed eyes to the man in question. “Rob, do you remember the days we actually spoke to Frazer? And she told us about her life, saw us more than every now and again?”
“Nope. Can’t recall.”
Now Frazer considered dumping her drink on Andy’s head. “Guys. It’s not been that bad. I’ve been busy. My project is finally getting somewhere.”
Rob’s eyes widened. “Wait. You’ve met a girl, haven’t you?”
Looking from one of her friends to the other, Frazer furrowed her brow. “In which part of my sentence did I say that?”
“Oh, come on.” He poked her with his straw, not noticing that he dripped rum and coke all down her white shirt. Now she looked like the messy drunk. “There has to be a girl. You never disappear from us.”
“No girl.”
“Mhm.” Andy was looking at her with the same expression as Rob. “Sure there isn’t.”
“I’m telling you, there’s no girl.”
No girl. One night of a girl, not even really a whole girl since she belonged to someone else. Frazer wrinkled up her nose—ew, since when did she think marriage meant you belonged to someone else?
“Alright, shit. No need to look so disgusted with the notion.” Andy shook her head woefully. “Some people like dating.”
“Yes, well, to some people, it sounds like hell.” Frazer sipped her soda water and smiled at her with the straw between her teeth.
“You know.” Rob actually looked thoughtful, which was always a scary thing. “If you had just never gone out with Asshat from three years ago, we could have our old Casanova Frazer back.”
Andy stared off into the distance and added, “I really liked her.”
Scowling at them didn’t feel sufficient, and Frazer had to resist the urge to add a swift kick to both of their shins. “I was not a Casanova!”
Turning to Rob, Andy said, “Remember when she slept with that nun?”
“There was no nun!”
