Dipping her head, Cora nuzzled her neck. “You were incredible.”
Whatever Cora had originally come here to say seemed to have floated away with one desperate kiss.
When Frazer swallowed and finally spoke, her voice was low, hoarse. “You were.”
Cora gently kissed her neck. She traced her way along Frazer’s jaw and finally settled over Frazer’s lips in a kiss. Chaste. As if they had all night. When she pulled back, she was smiling. “We kind of were.”
Frazer smiled harder then. Easily. Comfortably. “We were.”
That soft look in Cora’s eye darkened. She blinked. Sat up.
For the second time that day, cold air washed over Frazer.
She was on the edge of the bed now, staring at the wall.
“Hey.” Frazer pushed herself up on her elbows. “Cora?”
Cora didn’t look at her. Didn’t turn. “I have to go.”
And then she was getting dressed. Pulling clothes on haphazardly. Too fast. She stood with her back to Frazer, and when she went to walk out, Frazer called out more desperately than she had intended.
“Cora!”
Cora paused. Hovered in the doorway, a silhouette. Her hand rested on the wooden frame, her head turned slightly.
“I’ll see you at work tomorrow.”
Frazer was left with the sight of her hallway, the sound of Cora pulling her shoes on.
The sound of the door closing.
* * *
Everything had gotten out of hand.
Cora needed a shower. She smelt of Frazer. Of sex.
Of them.
But instead, she was sitting in her car outside Lisa’s house, shaking.
She’d gone to Frazer’s to end it. To get a clear head so she could go see Doctor Massey. To figure out her marriage. To ask Frazer to just be her friend. Which was what they were. The sex didn’t cloud that. They were friends, and Cora needed that.
But then Cora had kissed her instead. Again. Had lain with her afterwards and kissed her neck. Her lips tingled, and Cora pressed her fingers against them.
Cora wasn’t even gay. Not that it even mattered. She was married.
How was it all such a mess?
She got out of the car. The lights flashed behind her as she pushed the lock button on her car remote and walked up to the front door. She knocked like she used to in university. It was a pattern that came easy—muscle memory.
When the door opened, Lisa looked so happy to see her that Cora burst into tears.
Wide-eyed, Lisa pulled her through the door and into a hug.
With her best friend’s arms around her, as her shoulders shuddered in Lisa’s embrace, all Cora could think was that she needed a shower.
“Hey.” Lisa ran her hands up and down Cora’s back. “I hardly hear from you for months and now you’re crying? What’s going on?”
It just made her cry harder.
