“Why can’t you give our love a chance?” he asked, subtly altering the song’s lyrics.

She could think of only one response.

And it didn’t require any words.

Author’s Note

Author’s Note

When DAMAGED was first released, I participated in a panel at Thrillerfest, the International Thrillers’ Writers annual conference in New York. Our topic was “Are Thrillers Society’s New Conscience?” It remains my favourite conference panel, because it encapsulates the reason that I am drawn to writing crime fiction: exploring the gray areas between the black and white of the law.

I wanted to write about a whistleblower, a person who felt that she had no other option than to commit a small crime in order to reveal a wrongdoing. I also am fascinated by the shift in societal acceptance to the erosion of our privacy, and the unknown consequences that are attached to that.

I decided to write about shipping after an incident that occurred in Halifax several years ago with the unloading of a shipment of UF6 containers. It received front page local media coverage, partly because so few people realized that our port received these kinds of hazardous materials.

At its deepest level, EXPLOITED explores the consequences of how we react to change.

If you enjoyed EXPLOITED, please consider leaving a few words and a rating on the site where you purchased it. A recommendation from a reader means so much!

With my thanks,

Pam
