I smirk. “I guess I am, too.”
Glacia rolls her eyes. “Good to know, mister.”
We ride an elevator to Floor 10. Once we’re inside her room, Glacia grabs a pillow and curls up on the bed.
“Tired much?”
“Mmhmm,” she mumbles.
I bump my hip against the bed. “Well you can’t sleep. It’s time to be a normal person again.”
She peeks out with one eye. “Shut up and let me sleep.”
I grin. “Okay, little-miss-grouchy.”
Glacia yawns and lifts her head to brush her hair from under it. I don’t move from the end of her bed, and when she closes her eye again, I resort to looking around, unsure of what to do. The books she borrowed from me are sitting on the corner of her desk, and her holotab’s stylus is laying on top of them. Other than that, the desk is empty, much like the rest of her room.
“Arman?”
“Yeah?”
Her eye blinks and looks away. “I think I’m going to take a nap.”
“I don’t recommend it.”
She peeks out with one eye again. “Why’s that?”
“You’ll never fall asleep tonight.”
She scoffs and twists onto her back, clutching the pillow over her chest. “You’re telling me about not sleeping?”
I open my mouth to retort, then rethink it and clamp it shut.
“That’s what I thought, mister.” Glacia sticks her tongue out, then scoots forward and flops backward on the bed. “Now shoo. I’m grouchy, remember?”
I step toward the door. “See you at dinner?”
“Maybe.”
She shifts her head before I leave the room, and her face disappears in the darkness when I tap off the light.
Ellin and Glacia hog the StarPad when we use it after dinner. Michael and I stand by the panels and let the girls have their fun. Glacia likes spinning the galaxy and grabbing random stars to look at. She even discovers a cloud of sickly-green gas called the Eagle nebula. None of us know what the ‘eagle’ part of its name means, but the nebula is cool to look at.
When Ellin and Glacia finish, we find two empty couches and resort to watching asteroids arc around the stations. Glacia explains how an asteroid hit the Ember’s left engine this morning, and Captain Fallsten had to send out a team to weld the puncture shut.
So that’s what the weird reading was.
Then Glacia tells us about flying the Molter in the field, how she had to stay aware of her surroundings at every moment. The shields on the Molters are weaker than the MRRs on the Ember, so they don’t protect against the bigger asteroids.
Yet another reason for me to not be a pilot.
