“Victorija and Daisy are not at the castle, so they tried all the usual places Victorija might be, and nothing, but they’ve met up with an old friend who Byron thinks could help them track Daisy. A werewolf called Brogan.”
“Brogan?” Sera said with surprise. “But they haven’t spoken in years.”
“Oh? Why?” Amelia asked.
Sera rushed into her answer without thinking. “Oh, it was this girl that turned out to be Brogan’s girlfriend and—” Sera stopped abruptly.
Amelia narrowed her eyes. “What about Brogan’s girlfriend?”
Sera looked at Katie, then back to Amelia. “Um, this girl pursued Byron, and Byron didn’t know she was Brogan’s girlfriend. Brogan said she must have known, and they had a big fallout.”
Amelia felt the twist of jealously in her stomach. “In other words, she had sex with Brogan’s girlfriend.”
Sera let her head fall back and said in a low voice, “Byron’s going to kill me.”
“You don’t have to feel weird about it. I know Byron has a past centuries old.” Amelia tried to be as adult and mature as she could possibly be.
“She didn’t know the woman was Brogan’s girlfriend, honestly, Amelia, and they seem to have patched things up.”
Amelia put on her best smile. “Don’t worry about my feelings. I’m fine. Really.”
But there was clearly a tense feeling in the air. Katie tried to change the subject by saying, “Let’s get playing. Monopoly is a long game.”
Amelia watched as Sera and Katie set up the board. It shouldn’t matter, and if she was immature for being jealous, then so be it. She wasn’t perfect by any means, but one thing she was sure of—she was married, blood bonded to Byron, and carrying her baby. She might feel the odd twinge of jealousy about Byron’s past, but the right now was the most important.
Chapter Fourteen
Daisy was woken up by an even worse ache than the night before, growing inside her. The ache pulled her to feed Torija, but she wasn’t in the bed or the bedroom. She got up and put her feet on the cold, wooden flooring.
All she had on was an oversized T-shirt they found in one of the wardrobes. It barely went over her thighs. She got up and shivered from the cold inside the room, then walked out of the bedroom and along the corridor.
She tried to concentrate on the pull she felt towards Torija, the natural desire to feed Torija that the blood bond had given her. Daisy followed it to a door that was half open and peeked inside. Daisy saw Torija sitting on the bed in the room with a drink in her hand.
“May I come in?”
Torija nodded.
“Is this Angele’s room?” Daisy asked.
“Yes.”
Daisy went in and sat beside Torija. “Did you used to visit Angele here?”
