Victorija didn’t reply and kept silent for a minute or so. Then she changed the subject completely and said, “Tell me about your Monster people then.”
“I think I can do better than that. I can show you.”
“But we don’t have any phones or computers.”
Daisy grabbed the remote beside the bed and switched the TV on. “I’m sure this hotel has TVs smart enough to have YouTube.” With Victorija’s help at reading the French onscreen, she opened her YouTube channel.
Victorija sat up against the headboard and said, “You have a whole channel?”
“Yeah, this is my team.” Daisy started playing the welcome video. “That’s all the monster hunters, Skye, Pierce, and Zane. We met at art college. Great friends—well, Zane is a bit intense and annoying, but anyway…”
“What is he intense about?” Victorija asked.
“He thinks he’s in love with me and gets a bit touchy-feely.”
“You think he would enjoy getting touchy-feely, as you put it, with me?” Victorija said that with anger in her voice.
Daisy laughed. “No, I don’t think so. Anyway, let me show you some videos. It’ll take your mind off things. Oh, this is a good one. This guy said he was a necromancer. You see, I’ve always had this thing, my friends call it my spidey sense, but when I touch a paranormal, I get this buzz, this warmth that goes all over my body. You remember when I first met you at the tailor’s? You were taking Amelia out to dinner.”
“How could I forget—you were extremely rude,” Victorija said.
“I took your hand and could tell you were a paranormal. I hadn’t spoken to Amelia about this gift that I had, I didn’t think she’d believe me anyway, but I knew.”
“There must have been lots of people you found out weren’t…one of us,” Victorija said.
“Let me show you.” Daisy pressed play and her interview started.
Victorija clutched her stomach and shifted uncomfortably. “I know him—well, I know of him. An untrustworthy man who would sell his soul to the devil, if he had one, but who am I to judge?”
“He was a bit scary, to be honest.”
“Why did you, do you, do this? I mean, you went to art college, you do men’s and women’s tailoring—monster hunting doesn’t seem to sit naturally with that.”
“Well, it’s just something I’ve been passionate about since I was young. I’ve always believed in this paranormal world. I was drawn to it.”
“I suppose being a Brassard, monster hunting is in your DNA.”
“You’d think, but I didn’t know the Brassard family history until just a few weeks ago. When my mum and dad were killed, my granny decided to stop the family cycle of vampire hunting. To protect me.”
